First Meal

There was no rain, it was dark outside, and very few people were on the Plass by the time Jack and Ianto walked back towards the Hub. Their fingers brushed together but never linked as they wandered side by side, full on food and relaxed on wine.

As the meal progressed, Jack had asked Ianto about the things he'd missed, not cases, but other things. The four remaining members had formed a bond that Jack had no part in, and he was curious. Even Owen and Ianto seemed to be civil to each other. They'd had to be. Their leader had gone MIA, and in times of banding together, they'd only had each other to rely on. They'd each discovered their own strengths, and the others had found that Ianto was more than just a 'teaboy' with a very good memory and a healthy ego to match.

They made their way over to look out at the water, and Ianto leaned against the railing on his forearms. Jack stood a few steps behind him, just taking him in. The view of him was breathtaking, and one he wasn't sure he'd get to have again. Oh, sure he knew that Ianto was saying all the right things and being very accommodating, but he knew... he knew he'd hurt him deeply by leaving without a word. Especially so close after Abbadon and his subsequent extended death.

Turned out, his temptation had hurt everyone more than theirs had hurt him. Especially Ianto.

“Nice night,” Jack said softly, looking up at the stars. For once, the sky was clear.

Ianto nodded. “Yep.”

“Thank you for dinner,” Jack said as he stepped closer. Ianto turned around to lean against the railing.

“It was my pleasure,” Ianto smiled.

Jack grinned. “I'd ask you in for coffee, but we both know you'd have to make it, and let's be honest, neither of us really believe that I'd be actually talking about coffee anyway...”

Ianto tilted his head in contemplation. “Why don't you?”

“I'm sorry?”

Ianto chuckled. “Come on, Jack, don't be coy. We're both grown men. Surely you don't actually think I need to be... courted, do you?”

Jack reached for Ianto's hands, and threaded their fingers together, winding his arms around Ianto's back and pulling him flush against him. “You deserve to be, whether you need it or not.”

“Jack -”

“Listen,” Jack interrupted, tightening his hold. “Ianto. I want to do this right. I want to do this properly, okay?”

Ianto lifted his chin. “What if I want sex, Jack?” Jack swallowed hard. Ianto pressed closer, pulling his arms tighter around his own back. “What if I want you to take me inside, discard my clothes haphazardly on the floor so they'll have wrinkles in the morning? Hmmm? What if I want you to lick me all over and kiss me until I can't breathe? What if I want to suck your brains out of that thick cock of yours, then fuck you until you forget all about the rest of the world and the ones beyond? Huh? What if that's what I want?”

Jack stared at him. He felt like he was standing on a precipice, and this moment was going to change everything. He had to know what Ianto wanted, because quite frankly, he'd avoided answering the question every time Jack had put it to him.

“Is that all you want?” Jack asked softly, leaning down to breath against Ianto's ear. “You just want me to claim you and be claimed? Fuck you like a whore? Is that really what you want?”

Ianto pulled back. “No, Jack.” He breathed deeply, trying to calm himself from Jack's scent that was threatening to take over. “No, I want you. I want us. I want... I want as normal as Torchwood allows.” He felt uncomfortable talking about this, but he knew that if they got this out in the beginning, they'd never have to talk about it again.

“Do you want love and marriage, Ianto?” Jack asked. “Kids?”

Ianto frowned. “Jack?”

“Do you?”

Ianto sighed. “Jack, I won't live long enough.”

Jack's arms tightened. “Yes, you will.”

“Jack.”

“You will. I'll make sure of it.”

“Be reasonable. Besides, who am I going to marry? You? With your aversion to labels and love and happily ever afters?” Ianto shook his head. “No Jack. This is what I want. Please, don't question it. Don't argue with me. You asked me to trust you. Now I'm asking you to do the same. Trust me Jack. Trust that I know what I'm doing with you.”

Jack didn't respond. He merely captured Ianto's lips with his, his arms crushing his lover against him as he poured every ounce of emotion he had into the kiss. Ianto kissed him back, and as he gasped for air, the kiss deepened. Tongues slid into mouths, tangling and sliding, twirling and tumbling and Jack felt something inside release. When he pulled back, they were both panting.

“Coffee?” Jack asked, breathless.

“Thought you'd never ask,” Ianto replied, as Jack turned and pulled Ianto towards the invisible lift of the Hub. Once on board they resumed their kisses, invisible to the world as the world was invisible to them.
