Meh- this country has always been divided. If it's not libs and conservatives, it's north and south. Or segregationists and civil rights activitsts.

Being "on the side of humanity" may be fine on paper, but where I see it, taking a stand on an issue and convincing people in the arena of ideas is what makes this country great. There is always room for debate. Some ideas that have taken this country to new heights have been opposed for very valid reasons. The country was never completely unified to one stance or another. But it took steady leadership from the people who made the hard decisions to make it work out for as many people as possible.

I didn't mean that the country should get together and agree on everything. Taking a stand on an issue in an arena of ideas is exactly what ISN'T happening. I want people who don't have a political or ethical bent to think objectively about what is happening without trying to be loyal to something. I want them to get together and come to a conclusion that doesn't leave people with a bad taste in the mouth, even if it doesn't feel campy and comfy. It doesn't have to. Any outlook on things is fine as long as it doesn't come from being allied to a group.

Lemme know if I didn't say this right.
