Others' Optimism

As a child in the 1980s, I remember hearing all kinds of famous people having optimism and hope and positive words to say about life in general, and you could hear the sincerity in their words. Was it really that way, or did it just seem that way because we were children? Children are smarter than adults ever give them credit for, but I think everyone is born an optomist.

Does the world suck more now, or do we just see more clearly how much it sucks than we did as children?

I've thought of that a lot, and I used to assume that it was childhood's sugar-coated reality. But lately, I think we try harder to be something less positive, as if we've all been a little hurt in the past and don't want to be fooled ( ... )
