Posting challenge 4/15: Still easing into 2016

Jan 19, 2016 18:14

I'm not sure how it got to be mid January, flist. Perhaps because December and early January were so warm, I didn't really believe it was winter? In any case, the universe has been conspiring to correct me before I got too comfortable: the temps are down around 20F/-7C right now, a winter storm is on its way, and I just had my first class of the ( Read more... )

I love IKEA. I wish I was near one, but the closest is almost 5 hours away. Very sad. Looks like you got some lovely things there, though. Very bright and cheery. :)

It's been unseasonably warm here, too, which means that when it gets appropriately cool we all complain. :)

Cookies! Yes, we want to see cookies. *g*

I'm amused at how much a surprise winter is for me, every year. I've been living on the east coast since my 20s, and still it's always: "Snow! Cold! How are we going to survive?"

And, yes, cookies! More soon! M.

What always cracks me up is how freaked out people get by snow here. I mean we don't get it every year, but it happens often enough that people should know how to deal with it by now, but even the threat of snow means people are in the stores buying them out of bread and milk. It's amazing. :)

We get a couple winter storms here, though the snow generally melts pretty quickly. But it's the same as where you are: the stores are just decimated the day before. Never be caught without milk, I suppose? :) M.

We've been in the teens and single digits F here over the last few days. I think winter just wants to let everyone know that they shouldn't dismiss her out of hand simply because she'd been unusually mild so far. ;D The headband sounds like a good idea. I'm dedicated to earmuffs myself. Love the pillow!

You're so right! "Back with a vengeance" seems apt here.

I should try ear muffs, too. I think as I slowly become more expert in wintery gear, I'm learning there's a reason for everything. I used to think a woolen hat was all I needed, but I suspect I don't know the half of it.

Thanks on the pillow! Ikea brings such delights. M.

I've been reading about the upcoming storm -- hope the predictions are wrong. I hate snow, and the older I get, the less I seem to be able to cope with driving in it. (At least mentally.)

Love the Ikea purchases.

Hope you weren't hit too hard this past weekend! We had two feet, far more than DC can handle at any one time.

Honestly, driving in snow seems so dangerous--I don't know how folks do it. With driving skills honed in sunny southern California, I'm lucky I haven't had to do much driving here on the east coast. I'm anxious just thinking about it.

Thanks on the Ikea purchases! They have lovely items, don't they? M.

I've noticed your knitting! I wish I had that skill (and/or that kind of patience). Headbands seem like precisely the kind of thing that might be best hand-made (the store-bought ones aren't quite wind-tight either).

Doesn't Ikea have lovely textile, among other things? I love window-shopping there when I can go. M.

I use headbands for years now. I have so much hair that I do not really need a hat, but the ears need to stay warm ;-). I have even been jogging wearing gloves in addition to a headband recently.

Aha! I hadn't thought of the gloves, but that's a good idea, too. I need to expand my winter outdoors wardrobe, clearly! :) M.
