That Bond movie looks good

Okay, so normally I don't watch commercials because I have TiVo, and that's sort of one of the advantages of having TiVo.

But as I was FFing through stuff, I noticed some ads for holiday movies and stopped to watch.

Oh, this Deck the Halls looks bad. Matthew Broderick, do you need the money that badly? And you're married to Kristin Davis, ( Read more... )

I don't have kids, but I also don't go to the movies much anymore either. And I used to go all the time, but now I can hardly find anything that interests me. The movies are just so BAD.

I agree with you that TV is more entertaining. I'd rather get caught up on my backlogged episodes of Heroes and Lost than go to the crowded theater to watch some crappy movie with a recycled plot that's been done a million times before.

I totally like tv better than movies to, and usually can't even be bothered to watch the shows on HBO. If I love them they're gone in 2 hours ... and I usually don't love them.

Okay, if that's the point, then that makes more sense. I have no problem with a story about a beautiful girl falling for an "average Joe" because that *does* happen, but it bugged me after the ad for the other movie that has Danny Devito married to Kristin Chenoweth.

I'm just so tired of the beautiful wife/shlubby overweight husband scenario that Hollywood seems so fond of. Why can't the plain girl ever get the hunk? I know several couples in which the guy is much better looking but I never see that in the movies.

So you've won me over. Maybe I will go see it now.

I love Kate Winslet and will see almost anything with her in it. And I like Cameron Diaz more after seeing her in "In Her Shoes," which I enjoyed. So I'm predisposed to like it, especially if I know that they will make a point of noting that Kate Winslet is stunning woman and Jack Black is not so beautiful. I don't want Kate Winslet to be playing the "plain" girl who is happy to have anyone look at her, even if it's "average Joe" JB.

Holiday looks like a cute "go with your girlfriends" type of movie and at least Jack Black is in the same age range as Kate Winslet. These older men/unbelievably hot younger women movies drive me insane.

I'm most excited for Dreamgirls but that doesn't open until Christmas Day. I love musicals, though.

Me too! I know that actresses by definition generally have to be "hot" but why can't Danny Devito at least be married to someone in his general age range?

What is Rene Russo doing these days? She's still younger than Devito but she's closer than KC. There's also Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, lots of great comic actresses "of a certain age" who could conceivably be Devito's wife.

Hmm I hardly ever go to the movies. There really seems very little point since it will be out on DVD in a few months anyway and it is so expensive to go. Unless it's a group activity, it's really not worth it. I think the last thing I saw at the movies was King Kong since Hudson and I wanted to see it on the big screen and Narnia since all the kids had read the book and wanted to see it together.

I'm looking forward to Dreamgirls too but nothing else has me all hot and bothered. I've heard buzz about the Fountain and everyone pretty much agrees that the new Bond movie is good.

It does seem to be a given that schlumpy guys get the gorgeous girls. I was really surprised by the casting of Holiday too even though I like Black (in most things, not all). It seems a very odd matchup to me.

I think you're right about the DVD thing: No matter how appealing a movie is, I know that I can see pretty much see it on DVD within a couple of months. So why bother going to the crowded expensive theater?

It was fun when I was a teen and had to get out every night, but not so much anymore. I really need to be excited about the movie and that almost never happens now.

I really liked The Prestige. It's dark and brain-twisty and got me thinking about it for a long time afterward.

Thanks for the suggestion! And Christian Bale makes everything better. I wonder if that's still around or did I wait too long?

It's still playing in my local movie theaters, FWIW.
