This purpose of this post is purely the threefold conveyance of information:
Second: to inform the reader that I am now living in Japan.
Third: to inform the reader that internet access is no longer a strictly meted commodity.

good borges point; codex seraphinianus is almost as hard to get as a single aberrant copy of the encyclopedia brittanica might be.

there are two known copies closer than new york, and they're both 'lost' according to their libraries, who don't seem to care.
they ought at least to tell me who last had them, since the person presumably decided to keep it, and would presumably let me have a look.

so, i think i will have to go to new york for it, but that could be fun anyway.
i bet japan has some big libraries. librarynthine. the chemical!

All of a sudden I want rather keenly to quest after this book, and finding it wouldn't displease me either. Hopefully the adventure won't end without a complicated subplot involving an evil sect of futurists, a striking love interest, and a powerful feeling at the end that justice was done and those $9 were well spent. Well, actually, I doubt borges would approve. Better, perhaps, if the whole ordeal is really just a metaphysical metaphor.

This is Alex Kleeman informing you that I will be in Tokyo from around 1/6-1/14. Will you be near?

I shall, or at least, near enough. My university is only a 30-40 minute train ride away from akihabara, asakusa, and kita or minami senju.
