name change

May 07, 2019 22:32

I've decided to change my lj name after 18 years. I had to pay 15 dollars for it so I hope I don't regret it because the last time I paid for anything on lj was a paid account at least 10 years ago (Justin gifted that to me for that about 5 years in a row for Valentine's Day until I told him I didn't want a paid account anymore ( Read more... )

Mine doesn't have any special meaning to me. I tossed it together because everyone would call me "Kuri-chan" since I have naturally honey colored hair and it reminded everyone of that. I didn't realize I had input Kuri twice until I created the journal, so I just stuck to it.

Interesting. Would you mind explaining that further? The only word for "honey" I know in Japanese is "hachimitsu" so does "kuri" mean something like "honey-colored"??

Kuri means chestnut. The shade of the bottom half of a chest nut is similar to my real hair color. That pale shade.

I see, thanks! The word for chestnut I know is "marron". It seems to be what they use often these days for chestnut-flavored foods.

I like your new name! I also agree Z is the best, especially Russian-inspired Z names. ;) I will assume you know what my name means! :D I have had it since 2001, and it's quite coveted, especially once Russians took over LJ and there were more Russian users. But I am not budging. I love the word and the meaning!

Yeah! When I asked to be your friend on whatever friending meme I found you on, I told you I was excited about your username because I really like that word too lol. especially since it has the "zv" to it and that isn't a sound found in English. I'm pretty sure I remember you said you studied Russian at some point.

I've had the same username across the internet for twenty years now too. It's the name of an album. Basically, it was sitting on my desk when I created my first Hotmail account!

Is this it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Treehouse . I'm listening to it right now. It's not bad, especially for having a producer who was associated with the Smiths. No offense if you're a Smiths fan, but I really dislike them and Morrisey in particular. I think the album is actually very 90s, but not bad : ).

That's the one! It's very typical of the stuff I was into at 15. I should dig it out and give it another listen actually.

Oh I'm no Morrisey fan but don't judge Stephen Street on that. I really like a lot of his other stuff - Blur and Dubstar especially.

I have not heard of "Dubstar" so I will listen to some of that (band). I'm kind of familiar with the techno subgenre (EDIT: LOL I meant "dubstep"). Justin is a huge fan of alternative from the 90s, so I am a little familiar with Blur. I'm not into alternative from the 90s, but I consider New Wave (my favorite genre ever) the "alternative" from the 80s. Which is really funny because New Wave and grunge/alternative are SO different.

It's funny, a lot of the time I'll read lj names in my own weird way, almost like a nickname haha. I always read yours with the inflection of "majesti-carky" for no good reason. I took my name from The Who's "Tommy."

Not weird at all. It's harder with the names without "_" sometimes to figure out what it is. You can think of me as majesti-czaichik now if you want lol.

That video is both hilarious and bizarre XD. I've never heard of it before now even though I'm a fan of both Tina Turner and The Who and it's awesome they did this collab.

My brain could easily turn it into "majesti-czech" but so far so good haha.

Oh man, I used to watch "Tommy" all the time! It's an amazing rock opera, I hope you watch it sometime!

Mine is my middle name and my birthday :P not that exciting ;) I think my older LJ names had more stories behind them

Yeah I was wondering about that because I thought your actual name was Lyssa, but then you sent me a card and Im pretty sure your name is Jamie . Have you ever gone by your middle name IRL? When I worked at the auction house, at least half the staff had always gone by their middle names.

I went by "Lyssa" a lot, but yes my first name is "Jamie." In high school, there were 5 different Jamie's in my grade, 3 of which who were in my history class [dunno what they were thinking with that], so to make life easier for the teacher, I went by "Lyssa" to differentiate me from Girl Jamie and Boy Jamie, who were also in that class, and it sort of stuck throughout high school.

In college, for some reason, my friends were really into calling each other by first and middle names, so I was Jamie Lyssa, Kat was Katherine Isabella, and Bethany was Bethany June, so it followed me through there too, LOL.

Then in birthright, there was an "Amy" and whenever somebody said "Amy" or "Jamie", we both answered, so I went by "Lyssa" for the remainder of the trip, and truth be told, I've always identified myself more by my middle name [or last name because that's just teacher life] than my first name, lol.

Russians literally cannot go by their middle names... ever lol. The middle name is patronymic (a variant of the father's name) in all cases, so I've always found it interesting how so many Americans like to go by their middle names. In my new work, there is another Lisa, so I get to go by my preferred "Liza". A long time ago, I switched to "Lisa" because "Liza" is always mispronounced and I didn't want to bother correcting everyone every time they saw my name spelled.
