Yesterday was mostly spent plopped in front of the TV on an air mattress catching up on new releases. I watched Capote and Broken Flowers before calling it a night. Capote was amazingly beautiful and dreary. It has inspired me to reread Breakfast at Tiffany's and hopefully follow it up with In Cold Blood. Philip Seymour Hoffman is such an amazing ( Read more... )

I agree about Broken Flowers, I thought it was entertaining at some points, but all in all pretty lackluster. Disappointing because I love Bill Murray.

I felt exactly the same about Broken Flowers. I was so dissapointed by it. I was really trying to like it but I was completely bored. If it wasn't Bill Murray as the main character I might have left the theater!

I did love Capote though. I read In Cold Blood last summer in Amsterdam. Its such an engrossing story. I didn't go out for two nights becuase I was so into it and just wanted to keep reading.

My mom re-reads In Cold Blood every now and then and maintains that it is probably the best book she has ever read.

I've wanted to see Capote for ever now. I need to rent it but I don't have a DVD player and do they even have new releases on VHS anymore? I don't know. My sister suggested to acctually see Capote first and then read In Cold Blood. So that's what I plan on doing. As far as Broken Flowers goes I have mixed feelings. I was definately disappointed. I agree that the characters were off. I really hated the neighbor guys character. He was like this joke character for easy laughs for a wider audience. I did think a lot of it was very visually appealing. I also did think a lot of it was pretty funny. What I really loved about it though was the continuation of his use of awkward dialogue. There were moments when the character interaction was priceless but on a whole there was no great impact on me. I can't even remember the ending except it was left open.

we only have a small, hard little couch and a chair in the living room, a problem that will be remedied by the end of the month when we get two awesome couches. i can't wait! until then, when we watch movies we pump up the air mattress, throw down some pillows, and let the dogs cuddle. that way we all have plenty of leg room.
