And I thought I'd never say this; "I agree with Saul." To add poignancy to this little declaration, it should be pointed out that I am a 40+ year old, registered republican, father of a 9 year old and don't have any idea how the hell so many bigots got together to muck things up again. Of course I also believe that government shouldn't be pocking it's nose into anyone's personal business anyway. (I said I'm registered as a republican but I'm really a sneaky libertarian.)

the government shouldn't really be in the marriage business anyway.

EXACTLY. If marriage is a religious institution, the government should stay out of it. Religions all have different ideas on how it's supposed to be done, and the government isn't supposed to establish a religion, so the government shouldn't really be dealing in marriage at all. Besides, anyone (man+woman, man+man, woman+woman -- at least before yesterday) could get married by going to the court house and signing some paperwork without any religious bits whatsoever.

I have faith we'll fix it. Remember, people of different races didn't used to be able to get married. People will figure it out. This new amendment is unconstitutional, and someday, hopefully soon, it will go down.
