It's Saturday night and you know what that means: Daily Show: Global Edition. How I long for my regular dose of Stewart and Colbert. One of the things I miss about home is watching them with Peter sprawled out on the leather couch in his basement while guzzling black Russians (never white Russians, I'm lac-tarded ( Read more... )

You could understand the Thai in that scene? That's awesome!

How long have you been lacto-innacto?

One of the first things I learned in Thai was how to count. I'm our official price negotiater, and it's a skill that's used whether you're buying fruit or taking a taxi.

I've known I was lactose intolerant for about a year now. I found I was having abdominal pains and nausea (which would subside after inducing vomiting) once a week or so. I was able to correlate it with dairy consumption.

When I mentioned to my mom that I thought I was lactose intolerant and she said "When you were a baby and we first started giving you cow's milk you'd projectile vomit all over the place. Eventually you stopped, but if I'd known about soy milk back then I probably would have tried giving that to you."

I didn't eat that much dairy except for milk in my coffee (which is why I figure I lost my tolerance for it), so it wasn't hard to identify when a slice of cheesecake or mug of hot chocolate was the culprit. Since then I've been avoiding dairy, or taking a Lactaid pill when I don't want to, and it hasn't been a problem since.

I'm glad to read that you've not only been able to connect the symptoms with lactose, but have been able to manage it. Good for you! Sooo many people never seem to be able to make a connection between diet and symptomology.

You know, I also had a cow's milk problem back wehn I was a wee lad. I had goat's milk instead. Soy milk unfortunately wasn't an option, as the proteins are incomplete.

I've never been good at the art of the haggle. I'm glad to read that you and Peter have not only worked out who's better, but who's "job" it is. I suppose the haggle is everywhere there, isn't it?
