What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

The Inland North

The Midland

When I took this, I got the Inland North... which makes sense, I suppose. I have had people ask me if I grew up somewhere other than New Jersey because my english was better than most of the people they'd run into around here. Of course I'm from the Philadelphia region, and I do believe this one little bit of land has the worst english in the country...

You've talked to me enough on the phone, I think, to probably guess I don't have much of one either. That's because I was born and raised in Maryland, but totally lost the Baldymur accent when I moved to NJ. When I went to Villanova (right outside of Philly) I was sure I was in a different country. I didn't know what a spune was, nor a rume, nor a mune. I was very confused for the first week or so I was there. It gradually got easier when I realized that one ate with a spune, slept in a rume, and looked up at the mune at night.

You know, I've tended to find that the more intelligent you are, the less of an accent you have. For instance, one of my best friends in childhood, a girl who lived right down the street from me, talks just about the worst Philly slang you've ever heard. Needless to say, I love her to death, but she's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

It's even more noticible in the south. The more time I spend down there, the more fascinated I become with who has an accent and who doesn't.
