Goodness, this is certainly quite a mess. All this fighting! It's a good thing these things are all quite harmless and incapable of killing or this would have got nasty quite quick. Well, I suppose that's what I get for attending other things, aha. Now I know how the Great One felt when I bungled one of his Shifts when I was a young lad. In any ( Read more... )

[Derek mulls all this over quietly, but he probably can't keep the near-silent sigh from being heard before he speaks.]

S'all right, Molly. Mistakes are pretty normal when it's the first time doing something. No one got hurt; that's the important part.

[ It's not true, after all, that no one got hurt. No one got hurt seriously; that doesn't make her feel any better. ]

...Just be glad it wasn't me messing with it. From what little I understand, it's like treating the universe like a giant math equation. Pretty complicated stuff. And math wasn't my favorite subject.

[Oh Molly. As always Bil is being an uppity jerk, but really she doesn't feel like dealing with him. She's sure plenty of people will have words for that "intentionally losing" bit as well.]

Mistakes happen. It was very brave of you to come out like this too.

[She smiles a little.]

Like I said, things happen. It's over now, so bygones should be bygones. [And really, worse things have happened in this place than that little burp.] Just don't beat yourself up on this too much.

Please define special. Oh, and program. And possibly also usefulness just to make it a nice and three-shaped kind of ordeal.

As I said, I can't say much! Hm, oh, but I suppose the simplest way to put it is that you will receive tasks outside the barrier to put your talents to use. Not quite at all like the drafts, though I suppose in some cases, it could come to that.

And just what sort of talents are you looking to recruit? I'm guessing this isn't Star Search.

All sorts! Well, perhaps not all sorts. But quite diverse, I've been told.

Pity, Sir, about the requests! And so many smugglers available for your particular special use. But I suppose that when the coin drops you've got to take the showing side.

Indeed, indeed. But such is the way of things!

[Brilliant. Defeated so utterly spectacularly. Oh Bil.] The commendations are unnecessary. The Commandant misjudged us as a whole by dropping us in such conditions.

Who would be providing these rewards for this "special program"?

Perhaps, perhaps. Nevertheless, it's quite fortuitous for you.

Certain persons who wish to remain anonymous.

Has anything changed within the Organization because of that loss?

Anonymous providers. Less influential than yourself out there?

Oh, yes. Quite a bit. Tied in with your other question, in fact. These people, anonymous as they are, would like to see you and your fellows put to better use. But they are quite unwilling to put their own necks on the line if things should not work out.
