And according to all the media I'm exposed to, I'm the only one.

There's a simple explanation for all this: The geek-oriented media has now fully embraced the "NOTHING IS ANY GOOD IF OTHER PEOPLE LIKE IT" philosophy.

SGU is fucking fantastic. I love it. I loved atlantis, I loved SG1... The real fans of the stargate franchise - the ones that jizz in their pants when something is revealed about the Ancients, or tried to figure out exactly how old Destiny is (based on it lacking hyperdrive, similar design of the ship and stargate to Ori/Alteran architecture, etc), like me, will never dislike the show.

On the other hand, my bf, who hated Atlantis and refused to watch SG1 also loves Universe - so they have to be doing something right

I can't fathom people who hate Atlantis. "But...but...RODNEY McKAY!"

The problem with Destiny's age is that it has to pre-date Atlantis since it's clearly older in design, lacks hyperdrive, and is using an older version of the gate, as well as it was shown going through Pegasus as their first stop on their multi-galaxy tour. In "Rising" we're told Atlantis left Earth five million years ago, but so far no one has said that Destiny is more than a million years old. NERDGASM!

The only way they can make me dislike the show is if they just stop caring. However, given how long the franchise is running, and this reinvention of their format, I can't see that really happening.
