I made this hat tonight..it took me a couple of hours...but most of that was spent trying to figure out the best way to free-form the flower. And yes, that is a flower...NOT a tumor like Adam called it. : ( I didn't use a pattern.

it's a very beautiful tumor.

if you make one with the flower on the other side, we can wear them and be reverse twins.

btw, that head still looks like an alien.

I love the tumor hat! Seriously, I think it's really pretty. My friends mom tried to show me how to crochet....my fingers are not very coordinated though. I would love to learn how to make beanies and scarves.

i followed the link through knitting and hope you dont mind my looking in your journal, but that hat is lovely. and if you remember in any way how you did the flower (though i know you said its freeform) and you could tell me, id be eternally grateful. verrrry pretty.

To make the flower, I chained maybe 6 stitches, joined, then chained X amount, joined in the center, chained X, amount joined in the center over and over again so I have lots of little loops. I also decreased the number of chains going into make it a little bit more 3-d.

The entire hat is crocheted, I'm not sure how you would make a knit flower.
