Yeah, I liked it as a movie, but not as Howl's Moving Castle. Michael's completely weird and totally pointless transformation particularly annoyed me, because I ♥ Michael.

And I thought Howl was not quite as obnoxious enough at first, so it wasn't as interesting when he got nicer and nicer.

I'll have to read the book, I just rented it a couple of months ago. I liked Spirited Away better.

I love the movie, but I'm also more a Miyazaki fan than a Diana Wynne Jones fan. I only read the book after the movie, and it is, in fact, the only book by her I've ever read.

And the whole war is evil plotline is not uncommon in Miyazaki's movies.

Once I get a place of my own and my books aren't all in boxes, I'll have to lend you some of Diana Wynne Jones's other stuff. I think you'll like her.
