Not staying the course.

So I think what I needed to get my LJ voice back was to put it to use by telling the stories that I think need to be heard. I'm not going to defend President Bush, but from a semantic standpoint, there's nothing wrong with what he said.

In the past, he's said we should stay the course and that we will stay the course. Now, he's saying that they've never stayed the course. That's not necessarily a reversal of his previous statements, it's an admission of failure.

If he had said "We've never stayed the course", THEN it would be an admission of failure. Since he said "We've never been [about] stay the course" (I put in the "about" because that is what I assume he meant in his own inarticulate way), that makes him a liar.

If we are talking semantics, that is.
