FLAMES COMING OUT THE SIDE OF MY FACE

Feb 06, 2011 03:38

It's late so this post is going to be short but I really need to get something of my chest before I tear out my hair in frustration.

Glee fandom, you and I really need to have a chat. Namely what is with the completely inappropriate slut-shaming, JFC?

Unadulterated rage and spoilers for the Valentine's Day episode behind the cut )

glee, wtf rant

THIS.

slut is a useless term anyhow-- and people's rage at blaine for any of this was utterly ludicrous. i just-- UGH.

also i get you SO MUCH on the people ruining fic with that 'ready for' shit. this is not 1950, they are teenage boys. goddamn. if they want to go for it they'll go for it. they aren't delicate fucking flowers.

Utterly ludicrous is right. I was actually kind of flabbergasted, tbh. It literally makes no sense whatsoever.

IKR? I mean the first couple times I ran across it, I was like "Okay, this is kind of cute. Look at them being all responsible and shit." But now it's turned into a trope that everyone and their mothers are attempting to shoehorn awkwardly into their fics and it's just become silly. THEY ARE TEENAGE BOYS. I'm pretty sure they're just going to do whatever feels good. They're really not going to have a whole mushy conversation on their feelings about sex. Have you ever tried to get a teenage boy to talk about their feelings? AHAHAHA.

it's because, as we learned in Anti-Equal Rights 101, gay people (and women, and anyone else not a white male [irony!!!]) can't control their sexual urges, and can't be held accountable for their sexual activities.

it's sad that this double standard still exists, even subconsciously. :(

I can't believe people are still acting like flirting with multiple men is grounds to label someone as a "slut". And you're right that it's really misogynistic at heart. Gay men = women, dontcha know.

Damn, Darren sounds great there.

I'd think people would be somewhat happier about this development, frankly. For me, a little conflict is just what this pairing needed to be interesting. I'm sad to hear they're resorting to villainizing and name-calling to deal with it. Aside from the deeper issues you pointed out, that's also just lazy story-telling.

Doesn't he though? *swoons*

I was thrilled, tbh. I mean, Glee might overuse the love triangle as a device to cause conflict in relationships but probably because it tends to be an interesting one. And it only bodes well for the pairing in the long term. Couples who get together too easily on that show break up just as easily too. It's the ones who have the long, drawn out will-they-or-won't-they relationships that have longevity. Plus, I like angst. Angst is fun, lol.

Personally, I'm liking the GAP guy. More of him, please!

I like him too! I mean we don't know anything about him yet and they really need to fix that janky hair of his, but at least the idea of him is kind of interesting. I kind of hope he and Blaine hook up, if only for a little bit.
