This round, by everyone's approval, we are introducing the items shop, where you can spend dem monays (DM) on lame nifty stuff to spiff up your avatar with, as well as our new "division", so to speak - the training group, a.k.a. the Junior League. The regular challenge will now be referred to as the "Senior" League, just for matching purposes. It does NOT mean that Junior is inferior to Senior!
Please read both leagues' guidelines carefully, and pick the one that better suits your needs (and skill level). Do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Please remember to sign up at the appropriate posts!
Also do note that everyone starts with the same amount of money - exactly nothing. When the preliminary round is posted, everyone will earn a little bit of money and, of course, the chance to earn more.
The Senior League
The Senior League is, in a nutshell, exactly like Challenge 01. Anyone can sign up, regardless of skill level, except for the people who sign up for the Junior League.
The “Senior” League isn’t really a place for people of SUPERIOR SKILLZ, but rather, a place for the people who either a) are content where they are with iconmaking and don’t think they need a lot of orientation or advice to improve; b) want to compete for the shiny prizes; c) prefer the thrill of the challenge.
Again, being signed up to the Senior League does NOT make you supar awsm. It just means you don’t want to be in Junior League for some reason or other, mmyes?
Now, the particulars of the Senior League:
- Anyone can sign up;
- Eliminations start in Round 01 (~10% of the contestants will get eliminated);
- Justifications for votes (a.k.a. critiques) are obligatory for eliminations, optional for favorites;
- Prizes are handed out to the top contestants (see the prize list for details)
- The point system is identical to that of Challenge 01 - some iconists earn points in a round, some lose them, some keep the same amount of points as they had previously, and favorite points (a.k.a. the points an icon gets from voters every round) will be used as tiebreakers.

The Junior League
The Junior League, as approved by the majority of our members, is the place to go if you’re new to iconmaking and need/want advice, or join LIMS/battle icontests for the critiques so you can improve, but keep getting eliminated too early. Unlike the Senior League, only certain people may join - namely, beginners, or people with some experience that haven’t had the chance to improve yet.
In other words - Junior League is a training of sorts. It's meant for you to get insightful crits while taking part in the fun icon challenges rather than compete.
Now, I know it’s very hard to be able to judge exactly who is fit for the Junior League, as most of you may have guessed - the only reason why signups aren’t open for everyone is to prevent someone from “cheating” and only joining JL to “win”. While I would like to believe no one is childish enough to do that and people are aware of where they stand in regards to iconmaking, there’s really no way to be sure.
So basically - we will ask for some icon samples and a link to an icon journal (if available) and be the judges of whether you are a dirty cheater or not! I’d like to note now that the chances of us actually turning someone down for junior league are pretty slim, but if you don’t trust the mods to be able to judge, please sign up for senior league instead. We really can’t guarantee that our standards are the best ones, or that everyone will agree with them, so this is the best we can do - if you think we may be wrong, please sign up for senior league - anyone can join, no samples are required, and we won’t be doing any judging there.
The point of Junior League is to improve, and not to win. It’s a way for you to take part in lots of challenges and get some (hopefully) insightful feedback without the risk of getting eliminated too early. If you want to compete, don’t want your icons analyzed/picked apart, or are content with where you are and just want to hone out your skills - PLEASE join senior league instead!
The following are particular to Junior League:
- Eliminations will not start until much later in the game;
- Critiques will always be insightful and helpful - excessively harsh or general critiques will not be accepted. This generally means less quantity, more quality - only people who want to help junior league members improve would bother to comment;
- There aren't any prizes. Instead, participants earn a simple banner. A few more graphics may be thrown in for those who stay in JL until the end, but do not count on it!;
- Icon samples are required upon sign-up. This is mostly to prevent "cheating" from iconmakers who do not need the practice;
- The points system is slightly different - how many points you earn every round will always depend on how well your icon did compared to other JL members. However, your total points will only be visible to you - other iconmakers will not know how many points you have. The ranking system is also disabled. Points and rankings will only be displayed once eliminations start.
