Summer on a cracker.

Jun 09, 2009 12:21

I spent much of the weekend at spacealien_vamp's marathoning Avatar with s_vamp and her mother megory while being thoroughly spoiled with fresh, home-cooked food. I would never have the courage to try making my own pizza, but I did pick up the recipe for a delicious snacker meal consisting of a fresh basil leaf, fresh mozzarella, and a slice of -- you guessed it, fresh ( Read more... )

Summer on a cracker is also great with a tiny dab of balsamic vinigar. It gives it a bit of tartness.

This is the summer both kids want to learn personal finance, but not through the handy dandy classes offered at school. I'm going to have to go back and read through all your old posts about finance planning, since I'm no good at it.

I shamelessly recommend this post. Not for anything I said, but for the responses to my question about how all of you learned money management.

Your kids WANT to learn personal finance? You and WT raised some smart puppies. Do, do, do, absolutely DO talk to them about home ownership, and the benefits and costs to owning a home. I seriously have no idea how to go about purchasing a house or condo. I know nothing about fees and taxes. I don't understand where everybody else learned that stuff, but -- again -- I think it never occurred to my parents that their kids wouldn't automatically grow up into fully-functioning adults with mortgages.

There is much I want to say but I will start with the Avatar Love.

See, ever since my commentary post over there I've been wondering: "Am I the only one still watching this show obsessively/semi-obsessively?" Listen, I mean, yeah I do other things now, like mooning over Kotaro or Ikuta Toma, but I swear, every time my neighbor has come by in the last 4 weeks, I've been watching a random episode of Avatar. I keep telling her it's just because I was just eating and the disc was in the player or some such excuse, but seriously, it's always in the player and I'm STILL WATCHING IT. And I just tried hooking someone new on it! And I was going to post over there or email some people, asking if I was indeed the only one, because I was feeling weird about it. And there haven't been HUGS so frequently lately ( ... )

The lack of hugs is my fault, I'm afraid. I was postponing viewing the episode so that I wouldn't spoil megory before the marathon, and I've been doing other things afterward. I'll try to get to it soon, though.

Ahaha, no pressure, no pressure. Life happens, it's only a goofy project. It was a general statement of woe, because I have insecurities about my fangirling consistencies (or inconsistencies) and don't have enough outlets for them. I don't mind the wait, because (IN THEORY) the downtime gives me a chance to obsess over other things and then go back and enjoy Avatar when a hug list pops up. [Except what really happens is I go back to watch a hugged episode and then get sucked back into watching a few.... and then a few more ... and suddenly I'm way ahead, and then the process actually repeats with the next post, even though it's the same damned episodes.] Avatar Love!

I'm the same way with whatever the last disk in my DVD player is: unless I have a reason to remove it, there's no reason I won't watch it a third or fourth time. But that's also a function of my multitasking.

I am sorry it looked like we had drifted off the Avatar love. I knew when I tagged s_vamp that she had family visiting, but she's also strong enough to watch the very sad episodes...and Appa's Lost Days is a very sad episode.

How much G-Defend have you read? Did you start with volume 1 or did you start after volume 10, when the art improved?

It doesn't surprise me you don't know how to budget the car stuff given how convenient your area is to live without a car ( ... )

brake pad replacement every 5 years/30,000 miles

Oh man, no wonder my brakes were worn down to nothing...

I think you are seriously overestimating the difficulty of making pizza (especially if you buy a pre-made crust or crust mix), but anyway: alternative to summer on a cracker is: layer of tomatoes, layer of mozzarella cheese, (optional herbs), sprinkle with Italian dressing. Summer on a plate?

re: Avatar enhaced episodes - How many of these have you seen? I've heard of them, but alas, we don't get NickToons, so... :(

May I whine again about how much I miss the halcyon days of g_defend and recaps?

Maybe we need to talk sara_tanaquil into another sabbatical... (But yay, translation practice!)

re: twitter - Everything you said. -_-;; Plus I recently discovered that my twitter is about the only thing of mine that comes up when you google my name, which made me feel all pressured to be witty or clever or something, so of course I haven't written anything since.

It was homemade crust...but you know s_vamp and her mother, so you probably already guessed that. I don't think I'll ever work up the energy to put that kind of effort into pizza, but I also vow never to buy frozen pizza again. (Thank heavens they didn't make lasagna. I could never give that up.)

I've only seen one-and-a-half enhanced episodes so far: the first part of The Southern Air Temple and all of The Warriors of Kyoshi. The pop-ups are mostly silly comments, so the whole experience is like watching with a less-funny version of your LJ comments. One that stands out for some reason is the following pop-up over a scene of Sokka sleeping:

"Teenagers need a lot of sleep because their bodies are constantly growing."
[pause]
"Of course, some are just lazy."

I'm really, really excited about getting G-Defend 35 and translating some of the shorts. Which means I should probably order it, since manga doesn't magically appear on my doorstep.

I have to say I was less than impressed by the pop-ups as well =/ It's kind of like watching with someone who's trying way too hard to be witty.

Yeah, my point was that you could buy a ready-made crust or crust mix and have homemade pizza that's almost as good for much less effort.

Thank heavens they didn't make lasagna. I could never give that up.

Possibly it's a good thing we don't live closer to each other; I make a killer lasagna.

The reason I heard about the enhanced episodes is that there was a comment in the first one about how Zuko was originally going to be Katara's love interest. As you can imagine, this caused a lot of speculation about whether this was true or just Bryan and Mike messing with the Zutarians again. Anyway, it's sad to hear that they're not really fun.

Yes, you should order GD. And also the new Gakkou no Sensei, which is about Yuki and Nora (FINALLY), only don't order from Amazon, because apparently it's a freaking 2-5 week wait, what the hell, it was not like that when I ordered and this better not delay my order any more or I'm going to have to kill someone.

This was my first time watching Avatar without multitasking, and I was pleasantly surprised by the many little details I had never seen.

I knew I was forgetting something in my last comment!

I'm really glad you got to enjoy a more pure viewing experience and found lots more to enjoy! This is one of the reasons I like to give anything I'm watching my full (or mostly full) attention. There aren't a lot of things I can honestly expect to watch and re-watch (and re-re-watch) like I have with Avatar, so when I watch something I want to get everything I can out of the viewing. Whenever someone says they do other things while watching, it always makes me feel a little sad inside, because I think of all the little things they must miss. (Same is true for books and super fast readers, because -- and this always comes up -- they miss the little details I end up gooing about.) It seems like most of my friends are in this category, though. :/
