I am having some trouble, this year particularly, with shifting from the general certainty of collective death (or, as it was realized as a child and then a teen, "we're all going to die in a nuclear holocaust/from AIDS") to the near-certainty of specific deaths of people I know and care about. It's a fairly shocking adjustment.

That is it... what he should have taught you. We aren't far down the other side of the bell curve, but we are looking hard at that other side.

As I explained to taura_g earlier this morning, it feels like a shot across my bow, but damage sustained to other parts of my tribe and my tribe's tribe. 46. ::shiver::

I know and understand the bell curve, even if no one has explicitly explained it to me in this context. It sure hits home though as this is the second death of someone I know from my college years in just under two months time. I didn't know either of them really well, but well enough for it to have gotten my attention, each time.
