I'm going to have to say I loved this episode. I thought it was simply marvellous, even without Donna. It really wouldn't have worked with Donna, because then it would have made things go simpler for the Doctor, because she would have known what was going on. Er, I'm sure everyone knows that, so I won't go on about it.

Dear RTD, WHY I'M GOING TO MISS YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE DDDDD: (SPOILERS FOR MIDNIGHT) )

I really have to agree with everything you said. It was the simplest of concepts and it could have gone so terribly wrong, but in the end it was breathtaking. It was a the best kind of love/hate relationship.
Loving the acting and the sound work and building terror stemming from something so basic as someone copying what you say, and did I mention the acting?
Hating how events kept spiraling more and more out of control, the various characters displaying the worst of humanity, while the Doctor stuck his foot in his mouth without anyone to back him up.
Wonderful and frustrating and brilliant all at the same time!

I definitely agree about taking something that could be a cliche base but doing something completely thrilling with it. The bickering and noise was so annoying, I agree, but it had it's place so I didn't mind, and I think it helped us understand the Doctor's perspective. In fact, i think a lot of this episode did. When they turned on him, pulled him apart, I felt like they were throwing his deepest fears/weaknesses in his face; things nobody usually seems to notice or mention to his face. Rarely do we see the people he encounters completely turn and psychologically attack him like this, of their own will.
This episode was absolutely brilliant.
