Actionscript is kicking my arse at the moment... why is it so hard to tween the colour of a movie clip while transitioning external swf's over the top using on(Release) on 18 different coloured buttons

(don't laugh at me I'm still in tutorial land - trying to learn this all too quickly and working on actual projects)

For the record I'm using Flash 8 if it makes a difference
