One of the things Liz has introduced me to is the Enneagram, a system of personality typing. She's studying Clinical Psychology, which says a lot. And now she's gotten myself and most of our friends to talk constantly about it

don't get so caught up in the numbers that you start defining yourself by a personality test...even if one is scientifically grounded...that only means it is statistically accurate *most* of the time. (also if you only took the free test like me you are only getting part of it

I agree with you 100%. Sometimes people can get too caught up in these things. I've always said that while personality tests are a useful tool for developing self-awareness they cannot define who you are.
I think my problem is that I focus so much on my weaknesses that I forget about my strengths. You make a very good point about how what I want to be isn't always what I can be, and often I try too hard to be what I'm not.
