LJ news preview for English speakers

Dec 15, 2021 16:42

So, as most people know, LiveJournal seems intent to concentrate on Russian-speakers as their main audience and release all relevant information only in Russian. To balance it out I've decided to translate all relevant information into English when I see it ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for doing all of this! I really appreciate being able to keep up with what's going on with the LJ community.

BTW, I know someone mentioned the nude girls in tema's journal. Have you checked it out? I mean, there's nude girls there, so very NSFW, but from what I can tell it's a "best boobs wins an iPad 2" competition. Is that right? Because if it is it's... "extremely tasteless" are words that come to mind. This is the post in question.

Is he really officially associated with LJ? Because it almost seems too incredible to believe that someone working for LJ would be breaching their Terms of Service so blatantly (his LJ isn't flagged with "Adult Content"; I checked), and in such a public and seriously inappropriate way.

Again, thanks for all your hard work, and happy holidays!

Yes I'm aware that his journal has many NSFW topics and pictures. That's why I point to a specific entry to leave feedback at.

I wasn't aware he didn't have the Adult Content warning though! I'm sorry and thank you for telling me. I hope you've flagged this as Adult and I will do the same now.

He's only officially associated with LJ as a head of the studio in charge of revamping the site. Technically, it's the studio who's officially tied to LJ and his role here is not very clear: this journal isn't an official account for the studio. However studio is primarily known for this guy. I don't know how official this makes it all.

You're welcome and happy holidays for you too :)

I've seen you warn for the journal, and appreciate it! Not exactly what you want to open with your mom sitting next to you in the kitchen.

Yeah, I used a browser where I wasn't logged in to check if I'd get warned away from his posts, and - nope, nothing. It's as public as it can be. After picking my jaw off the floor, I went over and flagged it, because - seriously, some warning would be nice. (Also, if he is running/endorsing the boobs-for-iPad competition, what do the terms of service say about that? I don't even know.)

Okay, thanks for clarifying that, as far as clarifications are possible. All I can say is that I'm very glad I'm not staffing the US side of LJ right now. Poor guys. Can't be a fun time.

Thanks for all the awesome volunteer work! Much appreciated!

He IS running it but I don't think that it's against the ToS. At least it wouldn't have been if there was the Adult Content warning present. This competition was going on for years now and it frankly never occurred to me that those entries might be not marked.

Again, thanks a lot for translating all this information into English, it's great to have some sort of early warning when it comes to site changes.

*adding you too*

I quote the last entry of lj-pics-beta:
Folks, we are glad to announce that Scrapbook II version b1 has been deployed to our production servers. It is currently availiable for the members of lj_pics_beta or lj_ru_beta.

If you cannot do anything with the new PhotoAlbums beta, it's probably an issue that will have to be reported. You might want to join lj_pics_beta for that - they're posting and replying in English there (haven't been replying in a while from what I see though).

It doesn't function for me either, just to let you know. I can select a picture and start the upload, but it gets stuck around 90% :(

This and any other issues you encounter (links are hard to find, button's purpose is not obvious, etc) need to be reported when you're in beta-testing. You can do that in the comments in the entries related to Scrapbook in any of beta-testing comms.

Thanks so much for doing this! I have added you.

Are you willing to answer the occasional question about Russian idiom? Some of the machine translations are hilarious, but I do wonder what underlying meaning is really intended :)

Sure! Machine translations really fail for Russian so I'll only be glad to save someone from the cruel fate of relying on them only :)
