Yeah, I'm kinda curious where the Russians have seriously derailed this service I've been mostly using since 2000(ish)...

I see more and more people going away from LJ in Russia too. Those who are staying mostly can't afford to move for some reason. Some have tight circle of LJ friends, others no time or no ability to move, others yet have no clue what have been happening and only get nasty surprises like the new comments page and indeed get over it because they don't even know they have alternatives. Besides, there really ISN'T any alternative for Russian speakers. Other systems are quite comfy and nice but don't have the communities developed the way LJ has.
But what makes all those changes so excruciating is that I can absolutely see where they're coming from with them. For someone who had never used LJ the way we old-times do all this new, shiny stuff is very attractive. Those changes will kill LJ that we know and love but will bring owners money they desperately want.
