LJ news preview for English speakers

Dec 15, 2021 16:42

So, as most people know, LiveJournal seems intent to concentrate on Russian-speakers as their main audience and release all relevant information only in Russian. To balance it out I've decided to translate all relevant information into English when I see it ( Read more... )

I'd be interested in following along with translations of the changes that's going on on the Beta servers. I didn't realise you posted those as friends only.

That's okay, there weren't any updates there so far.
I've added you so you should be able to see everything under beta tag.

I've added you. Translations related to beta are under the beta tag. Not that there's much :)

I'd like to see the translation for the beta pages, if you would please. I'm tracking this information for multiple communities to keep them updated. Thank you!

I've added you to my friends-list, but like a lot of developments in the land of the internet these days, I'm woefully behind the times. Many of my friends who still have an LJ say they've mostly migrated elsewhere like Dreamwidth (for similar functionality) or Facebook (even though I severely despise the new Timeline concept and look). Myself, I've lost more than enough faith in LJ itself that ever since I had an issue sending a money order to pay for a paid account renewal to their location in San Francisco (I think back in 2006 or 2007 IIRC), that I just pretty much gave up...

Yeah, I'm kinda curious where the Russians have seriously derailed this service I've been mostly using since 2000(ish)...

I apologize for not replying sooner - I've missed your comment's notification somehow.

I see more and more people going away from LJ in Russia too. Those who are staying mostly can't afford to move for some reason. Some have tight circle of LJ friends, others no time or no ability to move, others yet have no clue what have been happening and only get nasty surprises like the new comments page and indeed get over it because they don't even know they have alternatives. Besides, there really ISN'T any alternative for Russian speakers. Other systems are quite comfy and nice but don't have the communities developed the way LJ has.

But what makes all those changes so excruciating is that I can absolutely see where they're coming from with them. For someone who had never used LJ the way we old-times do all this new, shiny stuff is very attractive. Those changes will kill LJ that we know and love but will bring owners money they desperately want.
