Chapter 1: A Day in the Life

Kim Jaejoong found himself deep in thought for the hundredth time that morning. After waking up to that rather “scandalous” scene (i.e. waking up next to his roommate’s very naked body, his morning erection pressing against his ass), the beautiful man had only sighed deeply, got dressed quickly, and headed towards the kitchen to make breakfast, while his roommate was currently taking a shower.

After placing the pancake batter into the hotplate, he suddenly heard the sound of the water pressure shutting off, indicating that the younger man was already done. Jaejoong paused for a second, his mind wondering to the other occupant of his apartment…

It had been three weeks since he had discovered that his roommate, Shim Changmin, was a werewolf. Well, not really discovered…more like his roommate had calmly stated that fact (after Jaejoong had been playfully joking about his strange habits) and then proceeded to show Jaejoong after the blond refused to believe him. Which of course, had resulted in him sprawled onto the living room floor, having fainted due to the shock.

Not really his finest moment, he must admit.

When he had opened his eyes, he had found Changmin, who had laid him on the couch after he had passed out, standing over him with a cold, unreadable look on his face and his bags in his hand. Apparently, he had expected the older man to freak and kick him out the apartment, so the werewolf had had his belongings ready, his body almost halfway out the door.

But Jaejoong had surprised him, and even himself, when he insisted that the younger man stay. And he could still remember Changmin’s face as he stood before him, without fear or disgust, while pulling the bags out of the taller man’s hands and taking them back into their apartment. He knew the younger man was probably confused at this. No normal person would willfully allow a person who could turn into a man-eating beast to live with him.

But as he had mentioned numerous times before, Jaejoong knew he was not exactly normal himself. And having known Changmin for three months before he had revealed his secret, the blond was pretty confident he could trust the man. Of course, it had led to a few questions that Jaejoong felt needed to be answered before they could go on living together without running into any misunderstandings.

Which led to some very awkward questions:

“So…Do you transform under a full moon?”

“No, that’s a myth. But I do get rather…horny.”

“Wow…interesting…any aversion to silver?”

“A myth.”

“So…if you bite me, will I turn into one?”

“Also, a myth.”

“Superhuman strength?”

“Not a myth. Comes with being superhuman.”

“Do you come from a tribe of wolf-morphing ancestors?”

“Er…no.”

“Do you sparkle?”

“….What?”

“Do you sparkle? You know, in the sun?”

“The fuck no!”

“Oh whoops sorry, wrong mythical creature.”

Surprisingly, Changmin had answered them with ease, despite face-palming here and there, and looking quite annoyed and horrified during the whole situation.

Still, Jaejoong had been relieved to hear that a lot of those myths were false. Especially one about the whole biting thing. After having his neck turn into a chew toy this morning, he was happy to know that he would not be turning into a werewolf anytime soon. He really couldn’t afford to have that problem added to his list. (Though the superhuman strength and enhanced senses could turn out to be quite useful.)

The one about the full moon one had been the most interesting. Though, it had thoroughly explained why Changmin would suddenly lock himself in his room and wouldn’t come out once every month. He had attributed to that strange behavior as Changmin being sick, but as it turns out, the full moon does indeed make the man…extremely horny.

And Jaejoong had been rather shocked when, after only a week of finding out the truth about his roommate, he had opened the door to Changmin’s room to find him in a very...awkward position. Of course, no human being wouldn’t have been too surprised to see a perfectly normal young man masturbating to porn videos in his bedroom.

Though, no one had come across young horny werewolf doing the same thing. And almost instantly, the situation had turned even stranger when the younger man, almost completely in a trance, had turned his sights onto him. Next thing he knew, he was on the floor with the taller man on top of him, ripping at his clothes and licking up and down his chest.

Jaejoong started blushing like a little schoolgirl at that memory. Luckily, he had distracted Changmin enough to slide out from under the man and sprinted out of the room and then out of the apartment, knowing if he hadn’t he would have been thoroughly ravished. Not that he would’ve minded, because Changmin was simply gorgeous, and Jaejoong deny that he had dreamt up a few sexual fantasies about the younger man sinceh e had arrived. But the man wasn’t in his right mind, and he didn’t want to have to wake up to another awkward situation the next morning.

Noticing that the pancakes were now lightly brown, Jaejoong pulled himself from those “thoughts” and placed the cakes together with the rest on the plate next to the stove. He then turned to set them on the table, only to jump back in shock, almost dropping the plate. Standing before him was his roommate, dressed in only his jeans, with a white towel draped across his shoulders, his hair still slightly damp from his recent shower.

‘Superhuman good looks does wonders for him…’

The beautiful blond shook his head, before snapping, “What are you? Some kind of animal? Put a shirt on!”

The taller man smirked, “Well, technically…”

“Just put a shirt on! Geez, you want to get syrup all over you?”

‘God dammit Jae, don’t put THAT image in your mind too!’

Changmin only shook his head, and headed towards the laundry basket filled with now-clean clothes (thanks to Jaejoong himself he might add) and pulled out a plain white t-shirt out and put it over his head and sat down at the table. The smaller man then placed the plate full of goodies on the table and watched as his taller roommate pulled five cakes from the stack and proceeded to stuff them in his mouth.

He had come to realize that Changmin was a big eater. Even before he found out he was a werewolf, and realized that he tended to eat a lot due to his super-fast metabolism and constant need of energy. Thus, Jaejoong had taken the extra incentive to make extra food whenever Changmin was home. And while, the amount of food did put a bent in both of their wallets, he was happy to see the younger man enjoying the food he made.

“Ah Changmin-ah, didn’t your mother ever tell you to chew your food before you swallow?”

Changmin paused in mid-bite and gave Jaejoong a rather amused look, “I learned how to eat from her.”

“No, you didn’t.”

Deadpan stare. “Yes, I did. She eats just like me. Actually worse.”

Jaejoong sighed. He should’ve known. Werewolf family.

Though, once again, Jaejoong was happy. It was pretty rare for Changmin to talk about his family. Any mentioning of it, and the man would suddenly turn cold and unresponsive. Any playful comment he might have made would instantly turn mean and cruel, sometimes making Jaejoong feel like the lowest human being on the planet for even asking the question. The taller man would never talk about his family or his childhood, and he was just as reluctant to talk about his life as a werewolf in general.

Still, the smaller man decided to steer the conversation away from the man’s mother, not wanting to dig so far deep that he would need an entire week to get out.

“What time do you have class today?”

“9am. It’s biology,” Changmin replied, not even once turning away from his meal.

“Really? What are you doing in the class?”

Jaejoong was curious. Anytime he could get the mysterious man to talk to him casually (without his yelling or Changmin’s teasing) was a good thing.

“We’re dissecting cats.”

“Hmmm…Why do I get the feeling you’ll be enjoying that a little too much?”

“What makes you think I hate cats?”

“Well, I don’t know. Maybe the fact that JiJi hated you when you first started living here and you would constantly scare her every time you had a chance.”

“I have nothing against cats. Except those who want to hiss and spit at me every time I come into a room. She deserved it.”

Jaejoong guessed he couldn’t argue. The cat didn’t like Changmin from the start anyway.

“I’m just glad you didn’t eat her,” Jaejoong laughed, “I think she really thought you were going to.”

But instead of laughing with him, Changmin just stared at him. His eyes were suddenly blank and any of his humor from before was suddenly gone as he stared at the table before him. Surprised by the man’s change in mood, Jaejoong asked, “Changmin, what’s wrong? Did I say something to upset you?”

The taller man looked up at him with dark eyes, staring deeply into his soul, “Hyung, do you…?”

When Changmin trialed off, looking extremely hesitant, Jaejoong became instantly more suspicious. Normally, his young roommate was confident, suave with a quick tongue and an endless amount of retorts and sarcastic remarks. And while he had only known him for about four months, he had come to think about Changmin as the type of person who was pretty sure of himself. So, to see this person, so uncertain and quiet really worried Jaejoong.

“What is it?” He asked softly, the motherliness coming through as it usually did when he felt others were upset.

But instead of continuing his question, Changmin just sighed and muttered, “It’s nothing”, and took a few more bites of his pancake.

They sat in silence for a couple of minutes, before Changmin stood up, dropped his plate off into the sink, and headed towards the door, grabbing a black jacket and his backpack along the way.

Jaejoong leapt from his chair, before the man could walk out the door, “Changmin, hold on!”

The beautiful man pulled out one of the umbrellas from the closet, “They said it’s going to rain today, so make sure you have this with you.”

Jaejoong suddenly felt a rush of heat on to his face as Changmin stared at him strangely. He knew was acting like some housewife sending her husband off to work. Which was obviously not the case. Since he was obviously a man and he and Changmin were obviously not an item.

But still, the older man couldn’t help but worry. It was just in his nature.

He was relieved when the college student only smiled and grabbed the umbrella from hands. But before Jaejoong could turn and walk back to his breakfast, he felt a hand tug on his arm and a another reached up towards his face, keeping him immobile.

“Changmin, wha-?”

The man’s long fingers held his cheek for a moment, those eyes never leaving his for a second. Jaejoong’s blush got even redder as Changmin’s thumb stroked across his plumb lips. Moving back and forth, and tickling him, and sending shocks of pleasure up and down his spine.

Then just as quickly as Changmin had grabbed him, he pulled away, “You had some syrup on your lips. But don’t worry-”

The taller man than paused to lick his thumb that had caressed his lips just a second before, causing Jaejoong blush even more, “I got it,” and then walked out the door.

Jaejoong stood there in the doorway frozen few a seconds before he yelled, “SHIM CHANGMIN!!! YOU LITTLE PERVERT!!!”

After the hour long commute to work, Jaejoong had finally arrived at Heaven's Café: the one that he had owned for the past year and a half. It had been rather slow going when he had first started. It had only been him and one other worker, and they would barely have any customers show up for the first couple of months. Jaejoong had started to become worried about the survival of his business.

After those months had passed, he had started to get more and more customers, many of whom became regulars, and now, he didn’t have a problem with the number of people coming into his café. And for that, he was very proud of its success. So proud, that it didn’t bother him that the minute he had opened the café, he hadn’t been able to sit down even once.

But now that lunch rush was over, he could finally wind down a bit.

As he was wiping down the counter, a familiar face walked through the door.

“Nice turtleneck, Jae. Did you get eaten up last night?” Yoochun teased the second he entered the café and sat down at the counter, placing himself right in front of the beautiful cook. It was normal for his best friend to come here on his lunch break. Usually Junsu would join him, but it seems today was different. The flower shop must be busy.

The beautiful man huffed, “No, it was just really cool this morning so I put it on,” while he unconsciously reached up and touched the soft fabric of his neck, massaging what was underneath.

“Yea because eighty degrees is the new cold, right hyung? You do know it’s summer, right?” his best friend laughed, knowing exactly why the smaller man was suddenly getting nervous and defensive.

“Shut up.”

Before he had left the apartment, Jaejoong had, fortunately, taken a glimpse at the mirror and noticed a rather large bruise forming on his neck, courtesy of his roommate. It was about nickel-sized, pitch black, and extremely noticeable just a few centimeters underneath his ear. He would have cursed and given his younger roommate a good smack on the head, twice if he got the chance to, if Changmin hadn’t slipped out before he had realized what he had done.

And he could imagine Changmin laughing himself on the way to class.

That evil bastard.

“Your werewolf roomie again?” Yoochun asked as Jaejoong handed him his usual cup of coffee.

Jaejoong sighed, knowing that Yoochun had hit the nail right on the head, “You shouldn’t say that so loud you know? People might think you’re crazy.”

Of course Yoochun knew. It was really hard to keep secrets from his best friend. The man who he had known since junior high and who he considered to be his soul mate, the one person in the world he could trust with his secrets. Plus, it hadn’t been Jaejoong who had told him, his friend had only figured something was weird about Changmin since the moment they had first met.

Heck, Yoochun had been suspicious way before Jaejoong had been, and the pretty man had been quite surprised when he had found out that his best friend had only been half-joking when he had made the comment about Changmin being a werewolf.

The comment…which would later led to the revelation of his roommate’s werewolf status.

Not long after Changmin had arrived, the smaller man had invited both Yoochun and Junsu over to meet him. At the time, Jaejoong had tried to ignore the amount of tension in the air the second the two walked into the room. His taller roommate had been rather stiff and unresponsive through the first ten minutes, but after that, he started to calm down a bit and had even started to join in on the conversation.

Despite accepting Junsu after the first hour (especially when they both ended up playing video games for hours on end) the taller man had still been rather cautious of Yoochun. The constant glare on his face was quite evident whenever he looked at the man, his eyes flashing in a rather challenging fashion. And it had been that way for most of the evening, until at some point during the night, Changmin had finally realized that the shorter man was neither a threat nor a male trying to challenge his territory.

But still, to this day, Changmin was extremely unsure of Yoochun. Which had also led to Yoochun’s own suspicions that something was not completely normal about his best friend’s new roommate. And hearing the stories that Jaejoong had been telling him (i.e. the hair, the cat problem, the territorial-ness), it had made sense to Yoochun when the smaller man met him the day after finding out about Changmin’s secret, and Yoochun had immediately figured it out.

And of course, anything Yoochun knew, Junsu would know too. Both had promised to not say anything to anyone and not to Changmin either. Not until he knew the younger man felt comfortable enough to share it with them as well.

“Not as crazy as the person who currently living with one,” Yoochun retorted. The man had been very much against Changmin living with Jaejoong after figuring out what the man really was. At least, at first.

“What was I supposed to do, Chunnie? Throw him out onto the streets?” the older man glared at him, making Yoochun laugh and wave his hands in defense.

Yes, Yoochun was a fun-loving, easy-going man, but he was very protective of his friends. And while he enjoyed teasing his hyung, he was not exactly pleased with the fact that the man was sharing an apartment with such a dangerous being. Not that he thought Changmin was a horrible person, and he truly didn’t believe the man had any bad intentions towards his precious friend. But considering Jaejoong’s kind, forgiving nature, it was not hard to be a little worried for the man. He would hate to see the relationship between the two roommates to get out of hand, and then Jaejoong end up getting hurt.

However, after seeing the amount of possessiveness and affection the younger man had showed towards Jaejoong the night they had met, proved to Yoochun that the werewolf might feel something more for his best friend than just roommates…whether taller man had realized it yet or not.

That much was certain.

And thus, Yoochun had decided to let it pass. At least for right now.

“I’m not saying that, Jaejoong-hyung,” Yoochun said, “I’m just worried about you, that’s all. You tend to just let things go, and you’re always worried about other people. And I just want to make sure that you know what you’re doing.”

“I know,” Jaejoong sighed, “we’ve had this conversation already. And I told you I’m fine.”

“Yes, I know, I know,” Yoochun smiled in defeat and decided not to say anything more, “so how is Changmin? You two getting along well? Any more weird habits? Or have you met any of his werewolf friends yet?”

The feminine man shook his head, “No, everything seems to be pretty much the same. Except this morning, he seemed upset about something all of a sudden. We were just talking about JiJi and the next thing I know, he looked really torn about something…but I don’t know what it is. I just, I just wish he would tell me what he’s thinking. He’s just so hard to read sometimes…”

And that bugged Jaejoong immensely. He hated not knowing what was going on in his roommate’s head. Even though he had gotten used to his strange habits, his snarky personality, and some of the quirks of being a werewolf, the man was still so confusing to him. One minute he would be smiling and joking with him, the next cold and calculating. Sometimes he would be extremely affectionate, and then others he wouldn’t want to be anywhere near Jaejoong.

And, actually almost everything about him was still a mystery. And while Jaejoong had bared witness to the biggest mystery of them all, he was still completely left in the dark about the man he was living with…

Nothing at all.

That frustrated him, but at the same time, it wasn’t like Changmin was required to tell him about his life. It wasn’t like they were dating or anything. They weren’t even friends.

Just roommates.

So, even though Jaejoong wished he could say or do something for his werewolf roommate, he knew he couldn’t. And even though he had come to terms with it, it didn’t make him feel any better.

‘Ugh Shim Changmin! Why are you making things so damn complicated?!’

“Well, you’re going to have to wait until he feels comfortable telling you,” Yoochun replied softly in his all-knowing, advice-giving voice, “he’s already trusted you with some of his secrets. And I’m sure he’s not used to being this open about who he is. I know I wouldn’t be if I was him. He’s probably never told another person about who he is. So it must be weird for him, you know?”

Jaejoong stared at his friend and nodded. Yoochun was very good at giving advice, which is why he was glad to have him around. Without him, Jaejoong would have been completely lost.

‘That’s what soulmates are for, I guess.’

“Yea that makes sense.”

“Just give him some time. You’ll worm your way into his affections…you always do.”

And with that, Yoochun took the last few sips of coffee before patting Jaejoong on the shoulder and walking out the door, just as a pair large, roaring storm clouds rolled in.

==

It was around ten o’clock when Jaejoong had finished closing up for the night. He had started to make his usual ten minute walk to the train station until he realized that he had forgotten an umbrella…

…and at the moment it was pouring down rain…

Jaejoong would have kicked his own ass if he were that flexible. Hadn’t he told Changmin that it was going to rain and gave him his umbrella? How could he have been dumb enough not to heed his own advice? But he had left in such a hurry to make the bus that he had completely forgotten about it. So now here he was, stuck under the cover of the extended roof, waiting for the torrential downpour to end.

Sighing to himself, he pulled out his cellphone. He was going to call Changmin and tell him he was going to be late getting back the apartment. He had gotten to the second ring when he saw a tall figure with an umbrella walking towards him.

“Changmin?”Jaejoong gasped, completely stunned at seeing the university student walking towards him in the rain, holding another umbrella his empty hand, “w-what are you doing here?”

His roommate’s face looked positively annoyed but his eyes did hold a small hint of amusement, “Saving you of course. I figured you probably forgot yours, when I saw your umbrella still sitting in the closet, so I came all the way out here to make sure you didn’t drown.”

The smaller man was still rather shocked. Yes, he and his roommate got along but for him to make the hour long commute in the rain to come and pick him up was rather unusual. Changmin rarely showed any kind of concern or worry for him, spending most of his time teasing or, at times, ignoring the older man instead. But to see him there, holding an umbrella, made Jaejoong extremely happy. He had thought all day that the man was upset with him.

And the one thing that would bother Jaejoong the most was upsetting someone and not knowing how to fix it.

“You…you came out here. Just for me?”

‘Damn, why is he getting so worked up about it? It’s just an umbrella, geez…’

Changmin laughed at the older man’s surprised face, “Don’t get too emotional about it, hyung. Because you totally owe me dinner after this. I’m so hungry right now; I swear I could eat your umbrella.”

Jaejoong sighed and shook his head. Of course, it was always about the food. Still, it was enough, and Jaejoong was happy to be on good terms with his werewolf roommate once again. After handing over his umbrella, the two roommates walked side by side, without saying much, until they reached the bus stop. Once it arrived, they seated next to each other on the completely empty bus.

Jaejoong rested his head against the cool glass of the window, watching the rain as pelt against the smooth surface. Slowly, his eyes began to droop and his tired body slumped against the chair. It had been a long, exhausting day, and he was just ready to pass out. Normally, he wouldn’t even dare to fall asleep on the bus, but with Changmin with him, he felt a sense of security.

‘My own personal guard dog,’ Jaejoong thought with a smile.

Before he could doze off, the occupant beside him nudged him gently, “Hyung?”

“Hmm?”

“Why did you let me stay?”

The older man turned his head from the glass, and he looked at Changmin, who was staring at him just as intensely. The poor man looked like he did this morning: lost and confused.

“Because I wanted to,” Jaejoong said simply, “why do you ask?”

Changmin laughed bitterly as he turned his eyes from Jaejoong’s and stared at the front of the bus, “It shouldn’t be that easy, hyung…”

“Why shouldn’t it be?”

The taller man snapped back at him and suddenly, Jaejoong began to feel a bit nervous, “I am werewolf. Don’t you understand that? A w-e-r-e-w-o-l-f. You shouldn’t be so fine with this! You should be freaking out! You should be afraid of me! You should’ve kicked me out when you found out the truth! But you didn’t…why didn’t you?”

The beautiful man’s eyes turned sad, listening to the young man, “why did you tell me if you knew that’s how I would react?”

He knew he was answering a question with a question. But he just had to know why Changmin casually stated what he was that day, when he could have easily continued to hide it. What made him take the chance of getting kicked out?

Changmin sighed, his hair falling over his face, hiding his eyes, “I guess, I was just tired of hiding. Ever since I was little I was always told to hide what I was. And I hated it. Even though I knew how people would react, I still, I can’t stand feeling like it’s a lie. So, I decided to tell the truth this time. To see what would happen.”

Jaejoong nodded in understanding.

The taller man turned on him, still smiling bitterly, “When you had asked me to stay, at first, I was relieved. But then I started to get annoyed because you acted like everything was okay. I thought maybe you just have a screw loose moment---”

“---Hey!”

“---and so I just have to know. Jaejoong-hyung, are you really okay with me living there? Are you okay with me living with you?”

The smaller man gazed at him for a few seconds, before bringing his hand up against the youngest’s cheek and then lightly pushing to it the side, making Changmin’s head whip around at the force, “You idiot! Of course I don’t care. And geez! I hate how you think that I am that stupid and naïve to not know what I’m getting into okay?”

‘Everyone seemed to think that way for some reason. Was he that unreliable?’

“Look I’m not-!”

“Just hush for a second, okay? Look, Changmin, I know what you are. And I trust me when I say this, I’m okay with it. I’m not going to judge you for who you are. It’s not like it’s something you can control. Besides, humans are just as capable of hurting each other. Truthfully, I would rather have my hairy, sarcastic, perverted, messy werewolf roommate who would come out into the rain in the middle of the night just bring me my umbrella than some asshole who takes my things and doesn’t pay his rent. Even if it’s just for food. Wouldn’t you agree?”

Changmin’s expression didn’t seem to change much, but a faint blush did start from on his cheeks, making Jaejoong squeal inwardly in victory.

“Changmin-ah, I know you don’t feel comfortable talking about yourself. And I understand. We’re only roommates and still very much strangers, but you know, you can tell me anything. I don’t mind listening. And I want you to know that I do like you as a roommate. And I would like for us to be able to become friends. So don’t think that me accepting you means that I’m avoiding the situation. I honestly trust you, Changmin Do you trust me?”

The younger man stood still for a moment before nodding. His face instantly lost its tension and his eyes were less fierce (the scary glow disappearing). The smile that came across that handsome face was no longer bitter or upset, as he stared into the pretty face of his older roommate.

“Yes. I trust you.”

“Good! It's settled then!”

“I still think you’re crazy for doing this though.”

“Stop it with the crazy already! Okay fine, no dinner for you at all.”

“Hyung! That’s not fair! I came all of this way to give you the umbrella! You owe me dinner!”

“I didn’t ask for your help, so I don’t owe you anything.”

“Hyung~”

“Don’t give me that cute face. That’s what you get for teasing the cook!”

“You’re so cruel…”

Their playful argument continued for a couple of minutes before Jaejoong found himself dozing off once again. But instead of leaning against the cold glass of the window, his head meant the warm shoulder of his roommate, who thankfully did not shrug him off.

Jaejoong couldn’t remember the last twenty minutes of the bus ride. He couldn’t remember stepping off at the bus station and walking the five minute walk home. He could barely remember the steady hand around his waist and another body that guided him to the door. He could slightly remember the pair of strong arms that had lifted him up and had carried him into his room and placed him on the bed, while muttering something about ‘no dinner’ ‘you owe me so much, hyung’.

And deep down into the depths of his heart, he had wished he could remember being gently tucked in. Wished he could recall the warm fingers that had caressed his face, the soft pair of lips that had been pressed against his temple, and the soft murmur of a ‘thank you’ whispered into his ear.

But sadly, even as his lips formed into a smile at that moment, the next morning...he would not remember them at all.

Okay, Chapter 1 has finally been posted. Yay! :33 Let me know what you think about it ^^ To be honest, I wasn't too proud of this chapter when I first starting writing it, but it has grown on me, little by little. I hope I was able to describe Minjae's relationship in a little more detail. Obviously, Min is going to be stubborn and stay mysterious for a while, but it won't stop the growth of their relationship. And I look forward to writing more funny, awkward, and cute moments with these two in the next couple of chapters.

Just to let everyone know, I will writing a Yunjae fic at the same time as this one. So I hope to post one chapter for one fic and then post another chapter for the other. It won't be every week (because school is starting to pick up) but I will try to keep up with both of them. But The Roommate will have first priority, since it came first and Minjae have become my babies so I won't leave them hanging lol.

Thank you all for reading! And please look forward to the next chapter~ :33

Oh and Happy Valentines Day! *sends tons of hearts and chocolates*
And I hope everyone gets alot of Chun heads for Valentine Day too! LOL

Haha sorry couldn't resist Jaechun moment xDD
