I keep fighting with my man. Over the net, over the phone... over e-mail. It's driving me insane!! It's like he doesn't even expect the baby to freaking change anything. And he's still in Iraq for another 2 weeks. GRRR ( Read more... )

If I had a man (haha, never gonna happen!) and he wanted a pit bull, yep, I'd let him.

Actually... if I had a big enough yard, and money then I'd get a pit bull in about a second flat :) I'm a VERY firm believer that it is not the breed, it's how stupid people are and how they raise the animal that makes them mean. I have a friend who has 4 pit bulls (2 were gotten as puppies, 2 adopted older) and 2 kids (a 2 year old boy, and a 5 year old daughter) and they are the sweetest dogs in the universe, and they are amazing with the kids...and my kids love her dogs (and vice versa). They are such awesome dogs.

I'm just assuming that's the problem here, the mean stance, and I'm sorry if it's not the problem..

Why wouldn't you let him get the puppy if he wants it? that's my question... =D

I wouldn't get any new dog or cat at around the same time as a new baby. Too many concerns over whether they'd get along. The breed wouldn't particularly matter to me.

I totally agree.

If you really wanted to get a dog, I would definitely suggest getting an older dog that is already house trained, and that you know would be good with kids. Puppies can be so energetic, and with a new baby, you may not have time to meet the puppies needs, which would be unfair to it. And puppies are just babies, too, so they're not always the most gentle.

I've never had a puppy, nor a child but I'm sure a puppy takes a lot to take care of, and a child is even more. I wouldn't mind getting a puppy, but I would definitely wait a while. I'd wait until we're settled with taking care of our child, we have our budgets figured out, and of course when we have a place to live. (I'm currently with my parents since I'm 17 and still in school and Antwon is deployed until May.) And even when we are ready to get a puppy, the breed may be an issue since I want a puppy that doesn't grow much bigger. Pits are so cute but they grow. I want a tiny thing like a chihuahua, only cuter.

I would wait on the puppy too, but not because of the breed. Just because you'll be overwhelmed enough taking care of your baby. And puppies need lots of attention too. I think you should concentrate on one at a time and maybe wait a few months or a year to get a pup. And with regard to the breed -- I would only get a pit bull puppy. I have experience with a different breed that was vicious but I believe that behavior was a result of previous handling.
