We left the hotel at 9:30 in the morning. It was about an hour and a half ride out to Xochimilco, which is a sort of Mexican version of Venice. Most of Mexico City used to be a lake, but centuries ago, the Aztecs started enlargening the land with floating barges that they planted on. I want to compile a photo book of the Stations of the Cross because there are so many beautiful ones.  There are easily enough to have one for every week of the year, or maybe for every day of Lent.

A lot of Mexican billboards and commercials have something written at the bottom in white: “Come Bien”, “Evita El Exceso” (for alcohol), “Haz ejercicio”, “Salud Es Belleza”, "Toma 2L De Agua Al Dia", or “La Leche es Saludable”.  I think they’re sort of like Public Service Announcements.  I like them, and spent most of the driving time of the last ( Read more... )

Jose brought me a Mexican magazine, TVNotas, today, and in it they had an article about the baptism of an actress’ daughter.  They even had pictures with the priest.  It was awesome.  Way better than American tabloids.

If Raul is my grandfather and Rodrigo’s god-father, then . . . is Rodrigo my god-uncle?  I think so.  Although in truth, he feels more like a cousin.

After waking up and getting ready, we met Rodrigo downstairs. I used the internet while we were waiting for the car and emailed my parents. Apparently they appreciate knowing I'm alive.

We got up at 6:30 and were on the road by 7:30. We had kind of a long drive out to Three Corners, which is very easy to find on a map. Find China . . . then find Russia . . . then find North Korea . . . then find where they meet. That is Three Corners.
