back from Aspen

Christmas was great. So relaxing, quiet, even though I didn't get a chance to do a lot of skiing. It was just nice to get away for a couple of days and shut myself off. I just flew out to New York to take care of a few last-minute things, and then it's back to work, but until Monday, I'm still calling it a vacation.

*browses through the racks of clothes in a trendy little boutique in NYC, slightly stressed and trying to find a stylish new outfit to take her mind off everything*

*pulls out a hanger with a ruffled miniskirt hanging from it, observes it, and then searches for her size*

*stands on the other side of the rack you're at, spots the same miniskirt and pulls at it from her side*

*realizes someone else is trying to get the same skirt, looks over the rack somewhat annoyed*

*eyes widen in surprise as she recognizes you*

*glances up startled, then excitedly*

Mariah!

*rushes around the rack, grinning, to greet her with a hug*

Talk about a coincidence!

*laughs as they embrace*

Merry Christmas, sweetheart. I can't believe I'm finally gettin' to see ya.

*pulls away and holds your shoulders to look at you*

how've you been, gorgeous?

*sighs* it's draining. but so well worth it.

*looks at you carefully* you're welcome... how does Shawn feel about the nominations?

[beyonceknowles]

*takes a sip of water and then shrugs* We're both happy about it. I'm just kind of hoping he'll find the time to go to the awards show. I mean, I guess he will.

*sighs* But he's been...busy, what with getting out his last album and all...

[mariah_c]

*looks up as the waiter approaches and places her order*

*takes another sip of water* wow, he - I know he's been all over the place lately, but - *bites her lip* are you two okay? I mean - I'm sorry, I sound really dumb right now... *laughs a little*

*takes a breath* what I'm trying to ask is, are you two together, or what? forgive me for not knowing... anytime I manage to catch him he plays it all vague like I'm Carson Daly or something. I know y'all are keepin' it quiet, but...

[beyonceknowles]

*also places her order with the waiter, then looks down at her glass of water*

No, no, it's okay. I mean, it's hard for us. I think, well, I hope, he still feels the same way about me. But the thing is we don't get to see each other that often. *sighs lightly* And I don't want to pressure him or anything 'cause I mean, it's his last album, I want him to do well with it, promote as much as possible, and everything.

I guess you could say we're on a break. We had a talk about it a couple weeks ago... and I've talked to him on the phone a few times since then but not about anything serious.

*pauses* I do really miss him but I know he's got to do his job.

[beyonceknowles]

*laughs nervously*

I suppose... *blinks and looks down to her food, which she has kind of forgotten in the midst of this recent conversation* Oh, it's good. I love this restaurant. How's yours?

[mariah_c]

*immensely relieved at the subject change* oh, it's fantastic. I love it here too, I haven't been in forever.

*looks up at you and smiles almost apologetically*

[they both make it through the awkward vibes and manage to have a lovely lunch together, not mentioning their love lives again.]
