Making A Reasonable Attempt - food

Over on alienor's journal, she was asking about how to deal with the situation of "I'd like my kit and SCA activity to be more period, including X. However, X isn't one of my areas of interest, and I don't have time to really research or go through a long learning curve on X (I'm doing that for Y instead). I think it's safe to say that food is *not* one of my values of X ... :)

I believe msts_eirene has put together a similar list/handout. We've done a lot of "grocery store picnics" that way -- just because something came up and we didn't have a chance to cook anything. And if you get a few people together and coordinate just a little, you can put out an amazing spread fairly economically.

The one thing I would add to the list is that most delis, if you ask them, will slice meat more thickly or even give it to you in a chunk, allowing you to carve your own later.
