Definitely have him evaluated for the speech. Make sure you model good speech for him, repeat things back to him the correct way if he tries to tell you something. If you know that he knows the name of an object and can say it, don't let pointing at it pass try to get him to name what he wants before he gets it. Songs are great for working on language too.

He doesn't really point at anything yet. I'm not really sure how I know what he wants most of the time, I guess I just know his body language and cries/whines. Though he will do a couple signs, 'more' and 'all done' and knows a few more (but doesn't do them). From 4-9 mos I was really good with doing signs with him but I got discouraged and mostly stopped except for a handful ( ... )

Happy Birthday, Birthday Twin!!!

I didn't start talking until I was three. Before then I just made unintelligible words. My parents thought I might be deaf. Then I started talking (I was waiting for the right moment! And I really wanted a cookie, apparently) but had speech problems until about... 1st grade? Through lots of speech therapy I got better. And let me tell you, once I did start talking, impediment and all, I wouldn't shut up!

I imagine he'll be okay *hug*

Happy Marieday!

I actually scared my folks because I was extremely quiet as a baby and didn't start talking until a little later than average. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't work at encouraging him to speak.

Happy Belated Birthday Marie! I hope it was nice. :) *hugs*

Rhett is so amazing. He's growing up so fast and seems really smart. You have a wonderful little boy. :)

happy (belated) birthday!

i'm not at all an expert - but i would say, go ahead and have him evaluated, keep encouraging him...and don't worry too much. maybe he's just going to be the strong silent type.

or, you know, you can try working on other stimuli - how does that joke go? there was a little boy who seemed healthy and intelligent and normal, except that he never spoke. his parents took him to all manner of doctors and therapists, and no one could find anything wrong...but still, no speaking.

finally, one evening, when the boy was 4 years old, his pushed his dinner plate away and said "this stuff stinks".

his parents were rapturous and loud in their proclamations of joy. "you can talk!" they exclaimed. "sure", he shrugged. "but you've never said anything, in all these years!" "well, up till now, things have been pretty good".

so if all else fails - try mushy overcooked peas, instead of the lovely frozen ones.
