Carcassonne

Ionel beat me at Carcassonne... again. I shouldn't be surprised, I only win against him once every 10 or 12 games. I guess that's what keeps me going, the hope of winning just one more time! The problem is that he plays aggressively and I don't. Whenever I try to be aggressive, he turns it up a notch and I end up in a worse situation than if I ( Read more... )

Anna and I would (while being on different coasts) play internet checkers and other random internet games. I couldn't stand to beat her, so before the game got a chance to be "played out" to the inevitable end, I'd resign, she'd accept, and it'd be a draw.

Tonight I took another beating. This time I outdid myself. I lost THREE times! Three times! I kept thinking "One more time, just one more time, and surely I'll win one!". Nope. I even tried being aggressive. I tried to fight Ionel for territory, or to gang up on his cities to take them over... Sigh... To no avail. It all backfired, every single effort I made.

But... I like the game, so we play. I guess instead of saying "let the games begin!", I should probably say "let the beating(s) begin!". :o)

Tomorrow I will surely win one!

I recovered the message I posted here on June 17th (which you erased):

I just found your blog, so I'm itching to post something ;-)

With regards to the game, you don't necessarily have to play more aggresively. You could also strengthen your farmer game. If you think hard about the last games, I did a lot less takeovers than in the past, yet my farmers always beat your farmers, and I also managed to close lots of cities with trades. Does that help?

Jim won last Friday only because he had unbelievable luck (he had like half the monasteries) and he kept on aiding Phil while I was pounding Phil at the same time. You had some bad luck, by getting your builder stuck in an encroached city which did not have lots of room for expansion, so don't feel so bad.
