I've been putting off grocery shopping this morning, sticking instead to homework, which sounds like the right thing to do, except... when I finally put down my laptop and got up with the intention to take a break and hit the store, I noticed piles of snow coming down outside and major wind gusts. I guess we're having soup and crackers tonight. I

I love red lentil soup, especially with garlic, ginger and carrots in it. I love soup, period. Especially when it's cold and miserable outside.

Poor Corcodel! I hope that he gets a chance to go sometime soon, wind and snow and all.

Oooh, that sounds good! I just checked my fridge and I do have a couple of carots and one piece of almost dried up ginger. What else do I need to make this soup?

I just really play it by ear with soup. I usually start off by sauteeing lots of onions in a pot, then adding water, the red lentils, carrots, crushed garlic and some seasoned salt (adding ginger and other things later -- sometimes I'll add some curry paste or powder, for instance, or a dash of cayenne pepper). I like adding veggie "chicken" seasoning powder to it, sometimes instead of seasoned salt, and will also add things with the carrots like cubed potato / sweet potato or other things I have on hand. Sometimes I just chop onions right into the water with the lentils and stuff to forego the oil. I should really try to write stuff down as I go...

Ha ha ha! Not really, since I have zero onions in the house. :o) I'll give it a shot without the onions. What kind of "chicken" flavor veggie powder do you use? Since I left the states I've been freaking out because I can't find my favorite in stores, and have been reluctant to try some of the stuff I've seen at WholeFoods.

Tiny is the same way. I tried to let him out a little bit ago, but now instead of cold and snow, it's cold and rainy. He took one look outside and promptly turned back around. Poor dogs! It's not right that they should have to potty outside!
