Narrow Escapes in Literature

Today's topic is: Narrow Escapes in Literature.

And by Narrow Escapes, I mean, namesYesterday, whilst poking around in some Sherlock (TV series) fics, I learned a shuddering new fact concerning the good doctor. This shudder led to other horrors I was equally incapable of mentally screening out, until I had composed a cringe-worthy list that ( Read more... )

Mariole, I am so, so, so happy to hear about the improvements in your work life, commuting and in being properly valued. Huzzah!

"Captain January"???? Surely not. Or did the original ship also house a curly-topped little girl who wore a sailor suit and sang cheerful songs when the crew was down?

Sadly, this is also true. Her name was Number One, but when she attempted a chorus of "On the good ship Bonhommme Richard, it's a sweet ship, nothing like a tu--" she was transported away in a last-ditch attempt to keep the crew from killing her, and her DNA was tragically reconfigured into that of a tall nurse with a blonde wig.

Some things remain better unknown.

On the other hand, it is _heaven_ to be appreciated at work again. This job is 20 times as inherently interesting as the last. I am very grateful.

Shirley got reconfigured into Nurse Chapel????? Wow. I bet it was a novelty, being so tall. ;)

P.S. I actually loved watching old Shirley Temple movies on Saturday morning TV when I was a kid, even a teenager. I used to do the songs along with the characters. I tried to do the dances, too, but was less successful. :)

I never watched Shirley Temple. I think the only clip I've ever seen was on a MASH episode! I know, I'm so poorly educated...

Yes, that was me. Completely beaten into lint. But it's coming back.

The pics are on my list. It was a marvelous trip. Cheers!
