Wha? Laurie R. King wrote a book ABOUT Holmes enthusiasts?? That is utterly...MIND-BOGGLING. WOW. I need to read this now. Did it just come out? (then again, I have been out of date with Laurie R. King. I haven't read her most recent Mary Russell/Homes installment yet. Yeah. "The Game." I have it, just haven't read it yet).

I didn't know Sherlockians were considered the first fandom.

Wow. I am so intrigued. I want to grab that one before I go on my two trips. I haven't read for leisure in such a long time. Wait, fanfic. Oh wait. Yeah, I have read for leisure a lot...just not from actual books...

By the way, did you know Laurie R. King has a blog? I created a blogspot account just for her, but alas, I don't have the guts to write anything to her.

I think I did know this, but I had forgotten and hadn't checked it in ages. Thanks for reminding me.

Laurie R. King wrote a book ABOUT Holmes enthusiasts?? Maybe she figured, I've already done all this research, might as well use it again? Also, I imagine she comes into contact with a good many of them. For all I know, she's a Baker Street Irregular herself.

Did it just come out?
Earlier this summer.

The main character in Art of Detection is Kate Martinelli, the inspector from A Grave Talent and all the other books in that series. I like them, but not as much as the Mary Russell novels.

I didn't know Sherlockians were considered the first fandom.
Well, dammit, now I can't find anything like a citation, so I don't know how true that is. However, I have heard that the use of "canon" in fandom is punning on "Conan," and the BSI date from 1934.

Have you read "The Club Dumas" by Arturo Perez-Reverte? I didn't particularly like it because of the ending, but it centered around a Musketeers fandom.

I have not read it but have sold it. I wonder why they changed the name for the movie? From the summary it sounds as if they removed Dumas from the movie entirely. How odd.

Probably because the title gave away the lame twist ending. Bad title! Fun book, though... until I got to the end.
