So,  i'm grading this quiz, and it become OBVIOUS, that one guy is cheating.  I'm relatively neutral to the guy, but i also SAW him cheating, and told them that if they're gonna cheat, PLEASE make sure taht i don't see it....  Thing is, they sign an "honor pledge" swearing that they've done only their work, and blah, blah, blah.....   So, do i call

Hereby you can consider yourself warned of Olya's livejournal, because I will be handing out sunshiny cheerful advice like that via this account ;)

I don't know if I would call that kid out on it, but I would send him an email/ tell him after class to stop by your office for a private conversation, and gently hint about the total destruction of his college career and any chances of passing your class if you ever so much as get a whiff of his cheating again. Browbeat him into a confession. I know you can do it! ;):) Make sure to tell him that if you're not smart enough to cheat so without getting caught, he should be smart enough not to bother. But if this kid is actually knows his shit, I don't know if you should turn him over to the Deans or whatnot...

See, i did that.... and he got all pissy on me, and said he doesn't know HOW this could happen, and FINE, then, if i want, i can give him a zero, but he STILL didnt cheat, and all that crap... the thing is, out of 8 classes the two of them were the oNLY ones who made that particular mistake, and i SAW him looking....

Yeah, I agree, it's only a quiz. Would be a shame to drag the guy through all the deans and whatnot over this. What about making another announcement in class that you saw someone cheat on the last exam, and next time they're screwed.

heh, i did that DURING the exam... i told them, that if they wanna cheat, one - make sure i don't see it, and two - make sure the person you're cheating FROm is right.... he didn't... and he didn't. i saw the fucker look at the paper... but our school's messed up like that. i'm not supposed to "monitor" them (thus the honor code) so, theoretically, it's just his paper... and come on, we've all been there and stuff, but he got ATTITUDE with me, after i confronted him... i told him straight out, that i saw him blatantly cheating, blah, blah, blah, he got all huffy, and was like "fine, then, give me a zero if you think i cheated, but i didn't!!" and yeah, we all said that when we did :-PPPP but i think i scared him sufficiently... as well as embarassed him :-P though speaking of embarassment, i have a kid who keeps on winking at me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take action. But then again, it only makes sense it it's important to you to punish him.

heh, see, most of the time i wouldn't even consider turning them in... we've all been there... bad week, personal issues, long night, pms, you name it... but this one is in my office twice a week, for 3 hours per time!!!! so i KNOW him! and then he just BLATANTLY cheats... egh.... no respect for the elders from these critens!
