It sounds like you'd be eligible for Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income, which they fill out forms for both if you call them.

Have you considered this yet?

If you haven't already tried, and you want to, I can try my best to help walk you through the process (I got approved on the first try).

Thank you so much!! That is so kind of you. I do get SSDI, but in order to qualify for SSI you need to have less than 2,000 in assests, including a car!!!!

I'll be o.k. for a few years, but then.....

Thanks again, it means so much to me that you are so kind.

Atlho I do have SSDI now, because my doc in DC refused to tell me the truth about my pronosis, I'm about about 50K in benefits. Oh, well.....

some doctors really suck. I could've sworn around here (Boston, MA) the minimum for SSI is $3000 in assets but maybe it differs between locations.

Can you apply for Section 8 housing from HUD? I know that's a sore subject for a lot of people because HUD is quite backed up but if you start now, you may be lucky to get it before he's passed, although maybe not until afterwards, but it might be worth the wait.

I know I personally hate having roomates but a disabled friend of mine got by for many years living with roomates, until she met a man and got a house.

I don't know a lot about the section 8 stuff but my state web page has a MA office on disability that if you call will give you all sorts of options to help, whether it's for living, food, or even rehabilitation if that's an option. Perhaps check and see if your state has a similar department and hopefully someone nice will be available to help you out.
