The original Red/Green had ugly sprites, and a different layout for Celadon Dungeon than what Blue had. The US Red/Blue had Japan Blue's sprites and Celadon Dungeon map. JP Blue had very different Pokémon locations, too, such as wild Jynx and Lickitung.
US Blue is technically Japan's Green. Which makes it confusing that LeafGreen wasn't renamed WaterBlue for America...

Blue is the third game in the series, the port of Red we received had many of the enhancements that came with Blue.
