Just past the 90k mark on my rewrite of Riding the Vaucoos. The end is near!

24 rejections since my last sale in January. Not officially a slump, but it's getting close. Good things, however, could be right around the corner.

As everyone here well knows, I just loathe birthdays. Wretched, nasty, horrible things. They're a hideous reminder of yet another year gone and one less summer to suffer on this mortal coil. I've had a great week of progress on the fantasy novel I'm rewriting. Over 15k so far this week. I'm past the halfway mark and am at 58,000 words total. Mostly I'm giving the story "wings" by getting rid of a few lead shoes of unneeded exposition. And cutting some extraneous dialogue that doesn't need to be there.

This is an old argument but perhaps one that needs to be brought up again because I see the term "sci-fi" misused more and more nowadays. Harlan Ellison has ranted about this one for years. Here's a video link where he speaks his mind:
