FORTY-TWO souls » a moonlight stroll

Jan 23, 2010 23:46

[The sun set a while back and raindrops are beginning to fall lightly over the village. Martel should theoretically be asleep, but she'd been restless, so she's out wandering along the riverbank. Eventually, she comes to sit on the bank of the river near the center of town ( Read more... )

[Kratos has been out on a walk on this winter night. He'd never been able to sleep properly ever since they disappeared. He was originally just going to... walk aimlessly and try to give himself some peace, but instead, he finds Martel. The melody is easy to hear, too.

He can't keep up his aimless walk at this point. Instead, he goes to her, stopping a few feet behind her. He knows that she knows that he's there, so he feel she doesn't have to say anything.]

[She glances up at him over her shoulder, her eyes warming slightly in welcome, but the mood tonight is quiet, suppressing any greeting smile. She'll turn her eyes back forward again, to the river this time. You can tell she's not gonna force conversation on you, so you're free to sit with her if you like.]

[Indeed, he will. He sits down beside her, one leg pulled up with his arm resting across his knee, and keeps his eyes on the river as well. It's a quiet, peaceful mood that's surrounding them, something that's calming Kratos' erratic thoughts.]

[She's still humming softly of course, and only after a couple of minutes spent sitting otherwise silently beside him did she realize this. At this point, though, she's in the middle of a tune and would be conspicuous if she stopped. Sorry, Kratos, I hope you don't mind.]

[Someone else is out along the river, drawn by the water. The reflection of the moon shows clearly and she seems to watch it awhile, quietly. After a few moments, she gives a wince and a small whimper, and puts a hand to her head as if she has a headache.]

[Martel is drawn from her thoughts by the whimper, and she glances up to spot this someone as the woman puts a hand to her head. Martel's brow knits slightly in concern, and she slowly stands, not sure yet whether to inquire. Eventually, though, she decides.]

Are you alright?

[...Shit. And she wants to laugh at Luceti, where nothing is truly private, but Mercury contains the hysterical reaction and composes herself. She nods.]

It's fine. I came out to walk along the river.

[Any other time, Martel would have pursued it further, but now? She just nods once, returning her gaze to the river as well. If you're observant, though, you can tell she's got at least part of her attention on you. She may have dropped it, but she's still concerned.]

-Sasarai had been on his way to the Center to begin a shift when the music caught his ear, causing him to divert his path completely. He stands off to the side, simply listening for now.-

[Her eyes slip closed a second in concentration, and she identifies the approacher as Sasarai without looking up, her humming only faltering for a moment. Her gaze shifts from her panpipes to the river, more 'present' (I guess you could say) than she had been before, but she otherwise makes no move to acknowledge your presence until you decide to come say hello.]

At least no one minds a gentle rain... I'd not wish to bother anyone.

[ emony should by all means be asleep as well, but restlessness has gotten the better of her, too, so she's out for a walk out of respect for her housemates and not wanting to wake them just because she can't seem to sleep. she wasn't expecting to find anyone else out at this hour, but luceti was always proving her assumptions to be wrong. ]

What sort of instrument is that?

[Her humming fades to silence, and Martel's eyes glance over the instrument a bit less distantly for a moment before glancing up to the woman with a slight smile.] They're panpipes. [She offers them up to her, more of a 'here, you can look them over' than 'here, try them', though she wouldn't be upset either way.]

Panpipes.

[ she echoes with a fascinated smile. as xenophobic as the majority of her species could be, emony was the square peg that didn't fit in the round hole as things from other worlds and cultures were things she couldn't help but want to know more about. why her people insisted on continuing to shun such things was beyond her. such an outdated way of thinking. ]

I assume you play?

[She stops humming at the familiar voice, glancing up at Ted. Since this is Ted, whom she tends to feed and/or heal, she offers him a warm smile no matter how quiet/thoughtful she feels right now.]

A bit. Are you alright?

Likewise. It's... an odd night. I can't quite place why, though.
