Wow, it really does seem like just yesterday she was applying and deciding!

It does pass quickly, and the older I get the faster it goes, unfortunately! ;)

Coming from Illinois, I can very much appreciate the hilly terrains to drive over, as I'm so used to cornfields and all in the flattest state in the union.

Overview of Islam sounds like it could be an interesting class... provided they give an "unbiased" view. I've always wanted to take religion classes, but have shied away because I'd probably end up getting too angry every class.

It will be interesting to hear how she likes the Islamic Thought class (I checked with her, and that is the actual title of the course). She thinks it will be helpful, too, if she decides to pursue art history, which I certainly agree with! :)

I listened to some Teaching Company religion classes in my car, and the academic religion classes are really fascinating! They are not theology classes, but really more of a history of the religion, so there is no need to believe or not believe, it just is the way it is historically and philosophically! I go in with an open mind, and if and when I disagree that is fine, it is an intellectual disagreement and not one I get angry over.

So you might enjoy taking one, just to see how other people think about things! Very useful in this small world we live in, imho! :)

I agree. Growing up in the Unitarian Universalist church, I've had a lot of religion classes about other religions. The entire point of UU-ism is to say, "Hey, we're all different, but we're all good." Also, "Everyone is allowed to come up with his or her own spiritual beliefs or lack thereof." Thus, they teach other religions both history and beliefs as a way to show us some spiritual paths that are out there and to give us ideas to draw from as we come up with our own paths ( ... )

Sorry to hear that, but I sure hear what you are saying!

If only people would have the respect to let others be what they are, and not get all bent out of shape about people being different. That is where the trouble starts, of course, and where it can end up is like in Iraq, and as has happened countless times throughout history. But now I am off on a rant, and so with that I will stop! ;)

Once they are off to college, time speeds by ridiculously quickly. doesn't it? She has certainly picked some fascinating topics for next year, there.

And being treated to lunch. That is so nice. It's lovely to be able to treat your parents when you are a penniless student.

And McGill.. that would be tempting, I'm sure!

It was indeed very nice for me to be treated to lunch by my daughter! :)

And I think she will have an interesting fall semester, I guess either way, if she stays at Goucher or if McGill comes through and she ends up in Montreal! :)

I'm sad she has to settle for Goucher if she really doesn't care for it as much as she thought she would. But still, there's always next year. And worst case scenerio she could always stick it out the four years and then start over fresh for grad school--if she plans on going that route. At any rate, it's nice to know things are going well!
