On my walk at Harriman Park today, I followed some "unmarked" paths as well as some marked ones.  I find it fun!  It is a little more challenging than following the marked trails, there are fewer or no people on them, they go through interesting places in the park, and often provide nice loop connectors so I do not have to re-trace my steps to get ( Read more... )

Oo! I've never seen rock piles indicating turns on paths, granted, I don't go out hiking much except on family vacations... I remember building a rock pile on the site of Thoreau's original cabin at Walden Pond though. It's tougher than it looks.

Wow! At Thoreau's original cabin?! How awesome is that! I have yet to visit, but it is probably a place I should see someday! :)

I should clarify, the site where his cabin originally was. It was a great trip, and I love being able to say that I got to go swimming in Walden Pond (which is actually quite huge.)

I LOVE glacial erratics and have made a bit of a hobby out of photographing some of the really awesome ones! I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds things like this fascinating.

I love them, and am so fortunate to live in a place where the glaciers liked to dump them! ;) They are so odd-lookiing sitting in the middle of the woods, they are so cool! :)
