Charlie, I'm all about being lazy. I can see these "Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys" have a good idea with the 11 weeks thing. But lets not be hasty.

It's still France. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't at least voice caution should you decide to do that? I mean, you summed it all up with their faults.

On the other hand, 11 weeks off sounds fantastic right now.

Not to mention that they frequently go on strike. Seriously, when I was there last week the trains went on strike, and we had to basically take a million different lines to the border just to get into Spain. And apparently this happens all the time.
so yeah, if that's not enough downtime for you, you could always just call a strike and go siesta for a week or so. :p

My favorite mentor ever just moved to France. Well, she is technically french anyway, but they're definately not all bad, 11 weeks of vacation or not. I thought it was interesting though that when she started at NIH 4 years ago, she only got 2 weeks of vacation (I mean, this is NIH right?!) and despite the much crappier research resources in France, they get so much time off. I think she may have gone a little bit the wrong way though... if you know what I mean... those little french goodbye kisses were just a little too... well... you know... hehe
