We're Freezing Here!

And by freezing, I mean it's 50* and rainy.  Yuck.  I know all you people up North somewhere smirk when a Southerner says something like that, but I am allowed.  I lived in a suburb of Chicago for 8 years, so I really do know what cold is.  And in my book, this is almost as bad, because we're just not equipped to handle it.  Our blood is thinner, ( Read more... )

It's 50 and brilliantly sunny here in southern New England, where I just went for a brisk walk! ;-)

LOL re: Higglytown! Mr Bear has now outgrown that, thank goodness. He's usually watching Word World or Sid the Science Kid now on PBS.

Will you adopt my dog? Or at least foster him part-time? He would LOVE you.

Higglytown Heroes ranks right up there with Caillou. I don't know which annoys me more, whiny Caillou or ridiculous Higglytown Hero standards. Since when does combing your hair qualify you for being a hero???

Oh, I hate Caillou! He is so whiny!! And my husband hates that he is bald at 4. He thought that Caillou was a cancer kid at first!! LOL!!

LOL re: dog! My kids would like a dog, but I am allergic and really, this house ain't that big ;-)

haha... and i've been running around in upper-30s to low-40s in my t-shirts thinking it's just not quite cold enough to break out a jacket yet.

See, I am more than ready for jeans and sweaters and coats. I don't need a lot of encouragement to break them out. Anything under 70*, and we're good!

Of course I am joining the north crew to point out that it is getting down in the 30's at night and I have not even turned on my heat yet.

I had to threaten Anya to put on jeans instead of shorts this morning, over her whining, "I LIKE BEING COLD!" She finally stalked out of her room, wearing a pair of jeans that I apparently forgot to remove from her drawer when she outgrew them. I think they're 3s, but I took her to the mall in jeans up over her ankle bones. It's so much easier to dress Ez, who is generally too young to care.

Knock wood, none of my kids (so far) has been at all interested in what they wear. Aside from begging for gloves or hats when it's not cold enough or wanting to wear a pirate scarf to school, they pretty much put on what I lay out. Miss Priss insists on a matching bow, but that's about it. I'm sure they'll make up for it later on.

Anya is the anti-girlie girl. If I put a bow in her hair, she'd cry for days. No dresses. Ever. Skirts, yes, but she prefers that they be skorts. She likes jeans and t-shirts and a hoodie with sneakers. She has no patience for frippery or ruffles. Her teacher commented to me the other day that she gets such a kick out of Monster, the only girl in school who wears a Greek soccer uniform and a backward baseball cap. I have to respect her personal style. Before I buy her anything, I ask if she'll wear it.

Ez is not one of those Christopher-Robin-types either. Even as an infant he looked ridiculous in things that were too babyish. P says I dress him like a little old man (Hawaiian shirts, sweater vests, argyle), but it's more his style, you know? His hair naturally grows with that perfect 1950s hairline, so he usually looks like a little boy from a Dick & Jane book, as Susan says. Today he's wearing his black SECURITY shirt and black and gray camo pants. Tough guy.

Carys is definitely a girly-girl. I do put her in jeans a lot for comfort and practicality, but she always has the matching bow. If I put her hair in pigtails, she cries when I don't have two of them to put in. But she isn't insistent on dresses, thank goodness.

I never have been one for girly-boy clothes either. I have a friend who put all of her boys in monogrammed rompers (even at 5 or 6) and Peter Pan collars. I just don't have the patience for it. My boys wear basic jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, with the occasional collared shirt for church.
