Four down, 46 (and the federal government) to go.

I suspect the Feds will come down to the Courts, which means I'm suddenly even more interested than I usually am about who might be retiring and thus opening a slot for Obama to select a replacement for.

You mean the decrepit tyrants of the US legal system; the ones who practically have to be hauled out of office in caskets?

And, yeah, the feds will almost certainly come down to a court decision, motivated by the momentum generated from individual state policies. Personally, I'm hoping that they just outright abolish the use of the word "marriage" in government and everyone gets a civil union in the eyes of the law, while churches can choose to call those unions whatever they like.

Kick ass. I'm extra-pleased that, for once, the fucking legislature got it done, instead of having to rely on the courts.

So am I.
Its a small thing, it'll see challenges and I frankly figure it'll keep taking -decades-. But its nice to see a hint of hope after the debacle in California.

legally speaking, I suspect it will get upheld in Cali.
For several years at least, until they come up with a better legal argument.

I'm so proud of Vermont and so terribly ashamed of California.

But this is the face of things to come. I sincerely believe that. Folks can either get run over by progress or stand aside.
