I think it's important for everyone to understand that Marvin Q is a smartass. Had I just said, "Do we have anything with vinegar in it?" he would have answered, "Uh.. we have vinegar," which does me no good because I'm not about to drink vinegar or pour it into something ridiculous, like orange juice. So, I was forced to include the exception in order to eliminate that part of the impending conversation and save some time.
