'Hanging unspoken between them, and clearly understood, were the words, “Your move.”'More than anything we appreciate the support we receive whenever we make a move on the community. Even for those members who don’t agree with us it is obvious you share the concerns and values of the community. Right now we are weighing the sustainability of any ( Read more... )

I found this community through friends. So far I have only lurked and read some of the fiction, though I have written pieces of my own in response to some of the prompts.

I see no reason why fans of the community can't join it in order to see locked posts. It's easy to do and the moderators here are quick, efficient and welcoming. Locking the posts that shouldn't be cross posted ameliorates the Facebook/Twitter debacle [which I understand is really handy for people like authors who use social networking to keep up with their fans].

I have a Dreamwidth account from the last time LJ acted like idiots. If you move I will follow you there and I have DW invitations to offer.

I found MRF through my sister greerwatson who recommended it to me when she heard the second TC CBC discussion was taking place; she knows I'm a fan. Unfortunately, I couldn't join in that as at the time I didn't have access to the internet at home (and there are high security protocols on any work access I've ever had due to the type of work I do, so I couldn't see the community at work). I remembered about it though, so when I moved and got home internet again (in August 2007) I got the address from her and started lurking. After a couple of months, the Persian Boy CBC was in progress and I started contributing comments. This meant I joined LJ (free account), and in my naivete (technical ineptitude?!) I thought this meant I'd joined the community! (Yes, I know you have all groaned on reading this - don't deny it!) It wasn't until several months later, when I wanted to post something to the community instead of just commenting on a discussion someone else had started, that I was told I wasn't a member yet. (my_cnnr kindly expedited my membership ( ... )

"If the community had been locked already, I think I would have read the fic that was available and regretfully moved on."

You're precisely the sort of person I'm worried about.

I've lurked on here for years - probably since 2005 - and I checked the site very regularly in that five-year span before I joined; I was very grateful that the comm was open. However, I do regret being too shy/unsure about joining and coming so late to the community. I'll be staying on LJ, and want to try to take a more participatory role in the comm. And if the comm moves, I'd probably open an account on that blog in order to be active in the comm.

Uh, hi there! Long time no comment. *hides*

I found MRF in--*checks the ancient depths of her Mary Renault tag*--2004, after noticing that The King Must Die listed in my interests was actually blue and linky, and clicking on there to find out who else had it listed as an interest. And so you see me here. :D
I think I joined as soon as I found the comm. I believe the community had open membership at that time, not moderated, but I probably would have joined anyway even if membership were moderated. I'm generally not too shy about asking for membership in communities to read locked fics, and am happy to lurk that way. However:
1) I would probably have been less likely to post and/or comment in a f-locked community. MRF is a rather small and tight-knit community as it is; an added layer of f-lock might really give new members the sense of attempting to join a closed circle of conversation.
2) I am extremely shy about requesting to be friended on a personal journal to read someone's fics, so I can see how others might be shy about ( ... )
