'Hanging unspoken between them, and clearly understood, were the words, “Your move.”'More than anything we appreciate the support we receive whenever we make a move on the community. Even for those members who don’t agree with us it is obvious you share the concerns and values of the community. Right now we are weighing the sustainability of any ( Read more... )

Since I certainly don't "keep up" with my own journal at all the whole "privacy" issue is a moot point to me personally. However I do understand your concerns for the Community...I found you fine folks by just doing an MR search on LJ and lurked for a truly embarrassing length of time before I had the courage to comment and request membership. If the Community had been locked I really don't know if I would have persevered, I probably would have been too intimidated. But I've always had the greatest respect for the decisions and directions both you and my_cnnr have made and taken us and it sounds to me that you both feel pretty strongly about this issue..
I really doubt if I would be migrating to another blogging site for myself but if the Community moved away, well, "whither thou goest I will follow".

A bout with a very intrusive advertisement for Keith's Beer -- which I was forced to watch through before I could even sign into my paid account, has provided the impetus for moving all 5000+ entries in my LJ of seven years to a new account with Dreamwidth -- I anticipate completing the switch by November. Moving MRF there would simply be an additional reason for heading out. There have simply been far too many bouts of "let's see what we can do to annoy our paying customers" since the acquisition of LJ by its current ownership for me to contemplate staying much longer.

I'm afraid I no longer recollect what brought me here -- other than amazing luck in landing amongst such delightful companions...

I joined MRF because I had read The Charioteer and wanted to discuss it very badly. So I did an LJ search and voilà. I'm not really shy about joining communities, locked or unlocked. I do, however, set great store by the profile and the welcoming post. A friendly and welcoming tone are essential to me. I think if you explain why you decided to f-lock the community people would understand and still join.

About DW: I would gladly follow MRF over there. I have an account and I have been x-posting the majority of my entries for over a year now. If more of my friends weren't so phlegmatic, I'd be on DW exclusively. Their customer service is outstanding and they actually take fandom seriously, too. And most importantly, crossposting and importing content is easy as pie.

I'm a very new member... this is my first comment, in fact. I joined because of the prospect of the community being locked down and because I thought I might actually want to discuss The Charioteer rather than just lurking! I found the comm via an LJ interests search and was deeply impressed with the amount of discussion here. And how informed it is. I don't think I would have joined without being able to see what it was about the community that made it worth joining.

I would certainly follow the community on DW if it moved there, as I'm more active on DW anyway. One problem with the move to DW is that they don't allow you to import communities, so all the old discussions would stay here. Apart from that, I'd be for it.

Thank you very much for your thoughts and welcome to the comm! We look forward to your participation in discussions etc, as there will undoubtedly be plenty more of The Charioteer to come!
