you really shouldn't call your grown-up daughter, that has been providing for herself for the last 3 years and living on her own for the last 8 years, if the only things you want to tell her are:

- you're not eating properly,
- you should prepare to go to sleep right now (at 9.13 PM!!!),
- you're probably sitting in front of the computer again (in a ' ( Read more... )

thanks for listening, hon *hugs back*. living at home is no option for me, at all - my parents would drive me completely nuts! so I feel for you... at least I can disconnect my phone from time to time :P. did it once to my mom, when our arguement almost made me hysterical. felt quite good, too. they should just understand that we're freakin' adults! geez, sometimes I felt treated like a five year old :-/.

eh... contrary to what may seem from above, I'm good now :). some entertainment (SGA! SGA! SGA!) and a good bath work miracles :D.

Parents do and say the stupidest things sometimes, you gotta wonder what the hell they're thinking.

*hugs* & *cake*

I think that maybe they want to pretend that they still have some kind of tangible control over their child's life. but it's pretty ridiculous when you've been proving for YEARS that you're capable of taking care of yourself *grumbles*. it irritates the hell out of me, but I've managed to tell my dad to frak off in a very polite and diplomatic way :D. I don't think the effects will be lasting, though *sighs*. in a few weeks he will feel the need to say something annoying and stupid again *headdesk*.

*hugs back* & *munches on cake* :)

I hope John managed to make you feel better. I'm watching the other Shephard right now. *yum*

I'm sorry it pissed you off, but you know he's really proud of you for being independent and at the same time desperately trying to think you still need him? It's true of all parents, it's just that some, and MEN in particular, have a harder time dealing with it. The not eating properly thing will last forever and ever and ever LOL, trust me, I know what our part of the world's like. Plus... ahem... in my case it was always true. LOL.

LJ is awesome for venting, isn't it? I hope it helped. *hug* My dad was depressed when I turned 16 cause he thought I might become interested in boys any day now and omg, he's going to lose his little girl forever. :D

oh, John is GOOD at making me feel better :P. Jack would be great as well, but other characters in his show piss me off so much *coughSawyercough* that I doubt watching Lost would have a calming effect on me...

I know that my dad is proud of me and my achievements but his need for me to stroke his ego and NEED him is frustrating - sometimes I get the feeling that berating me is his way to feel better about himself and his shortcomins *sighs*. but you're probably right too... in some way I'll always be his little girl but there are boundaries, damn it. and I won't agree to be patronized.

in my case all the 'accusations' were true, too :). but really, starting conversation asking me about what I ate for dinner is the quickest way to annoy me. I'm not starving and I'm not obese - the rest isn't really anybody's business imo.

oh, LJ is awesome for venting :D. it helped muchly and John had a tad easier task after I'd blown off some steam here. :)

*hugs*

I know you know what I mean. parents can be frustrating/annoying/irritating as hell and we both know about it more that we wanted to *headdesk*. I hope that, in both our cases, they will back off at least for a while. *hugs*
