I posted this entry in my personal journal, but thought I would include it here since it relates to this community. Would be curious of others observations on this as well

Did you catch the front page of the Indianapolis Star yesterday?
I live in Indy...there was a huge article about how interracial marriages are more accepted here than they were 20 years ago.
I'm half Paki/half British....my parents obviously were the first interracial couple on both sides of my family. I'm clearly an interracial person :D
I'm married to a white American man....our two daughters are a blend of about 700 different ethnicities now ;)
Curious about where you are in Indiana...would love to talk more and possibly meet and chat sometime! You can private message me at through LJ if you want.
Ooh, no I didn't! I may have to look up that article - thanks for bringing it up. It certainly is right that interracial marriages are a little more common than they were years ago. I was actually quite surprised to find an Indian store only 5 minutes from my new home. I don't think that would have been common just 10 years ago. I'll send you a message! :-) **hugs**
Oh, how exciting! I did not think that there were any -- well, hardly any -- couples in Indiana. I, too, live in Indy. I am white and my bf is Pakistani. He was visiting last week and (since I, also have just moved to Indy from a much smaller town), we were looking for Mosques and other friendly activities/friends. We did find Magoo's California Pizza which has zabiha halal meat - even pepperoni. We have decided to try out all of the Indian restaurants and rate&review. Yes, Indiana is a bit conservative when it comes to interracial couples. Even when they do see them, it is usually African-American man and white woman. And, there are stereotypes that are readily believed as to why this particular couple is drawn to each other. Glad to see others from Indy. Maybe we could meet sometime! Hmm, who knows. I don't get on Masala couples / livejournal much. But, I have skype: IndiJana06 is the skype name. andjanwrightfamily5@hotmail.com is my msn id: but I never check the hotmail account. WOOHOO for Indy masala couples!!!!

Im currently dating an Indian. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting or even talking to his mom or dad as they are all still in his home land.
I live in Mass and my bf lives in NH. We are only 20 minutes away from one another which is nice. When we first started dating last year people would eyeball us as well. Ive never been in a relationship with an Indian before but Ive dated other nationalities but never got the eye balling. Maybe because I'm Irish White and he's a lot darker than me. I'm not sure. It doesn't bother me as I'm in love with him and he treats me better than any other relationship Ive been in.

Hear, hear for the Irish white complexion! LOL That's me too. *grins* It's funny since I don't even think about the fact that we're from two different places, so when we get the "eyeball" it catches me a bit off guard sometimes. ;-)
Strangers don't believe my bf (6'4, Silesian) is going out with me (5'4, brown, slightly overweight). Women come over and start hitting on him in front of me. One waitress fellated a beer bottle she was about to serve him and followed him into a toilet. It's disgusting and hurtful.
